when falling over, or who cannot assist in transferring themselves, to call through to the
office to discuss this in advance of booking your trip.
Care Provision Our Activity Weeks are available to everyone with a disability. If you need
personal care in your everyday life, you are required to bring a carer with you on the trip.
DSUK volunteers cannot provide personal care. They come to share their love of
snowsports and the outdoors they are not carers.
If it becomes apparent that the information you have given is misleading and care is
needed we reserve the right to employ specialised care in resort with all costs being paid
by you.
We will refuse travel if information you have given us is misleading.
5

Without the help of our volunteers we would be unable to
deliver our activities.
We need people to assist our skiers at the airport, on arrival
at the hotel, getting around the resort, on the slopes and
generally being around during the day and evening. This
includes assisting at meal times, evening activities and joining
in as part of the group so that our disabled participants, as
well as yourselves, have a truly wonderful time.
Sharing the thrill of snowsports with our skiers and
snowboarders is a life-enhancing experience. If you can
snowplough, you can help!
fund is limited. Each year we need to raise over £25,000 to run the overseas programme. If
anybody wishes to fundraise for us, donate £2 a month or make a one off donation it
would make an enormous difference to our work. See pages 10 & 11 for our fundraising
A few important things...
Resorts
As you will see from the brochure there
are several resorts to choose from.
Working with Crystal we try to provide
hotel accommodation with full disabled
access and facilities. This is not always
possible as many ski areas were not
designed for disabled skiing. If you have a
question about a particular hotel featured
in the brochure please do not hesitate to
contact us.
Cost
Unless otherwise stated the price includes
return flights from London Gatwick,
transfers to and from the resort, half
board accommodation, lift pass and ski
equipment (not clothing or personal ski
carriage).The price for skiers and
snowboarders also includes ski school.
If you are an independent skier or
travelling with your carer it may be
possible to fly you from your nearest
airport. Please contact the office for
availability.This will incur a supplement.
Overseas Ski School
The price includes 2.5hrs of instruction
for 5 days. Wherever possible we try to
facilitate skiers and snowboarders to ski
all day however this is very much
dependant on the breakdown of the group
and the conditions on the day. This rarely
happens on the first day while we slot into
8
a routine.The lessons are a one-to-one
basis, with a helper when needed.
New to DSUK this year are our coaching
weeks which are group lessons rather
than individual lessons. You must be able to
ski to parallel standard, if you are a stand
up, or ski independently if you are a sit
skier to attend these weeks. See page 16
for more information.
Passport
For trips to Europe, your passport must
be valid for at least 3 months after your
return to the UK. For trips to North
America your passport must be valid for
at least 6 months after your return to the
UK. For all North America destinations
you will need to fill in an Electronic
System for Travel Authorization (ESTA)
approval which can be done online in
advance at www.usa-travel-visa.co.uk

Insurance
All participants on Activity Weeks need to
have travel insurance covering winter
sports. If travelling to European resorts,
you can also obtain a European Health
Insurance Card from the NHS. Please
visit www.nhs.uk for more information,
however please note this is not sufficient
on its own and must be accompanied by a
full winter travel insurance policy which is
acceptable at all medical centres.
Ski carriage
If you are taking your own skis, you will
need to advise us.There will be a charge
for this that we will invoice you for.
Accommodation
Unless you bring your own carer or are
travelling as a family skiers, will share with
other skiers and helpers will share with
other helpers. By default twin rooms are
booked.
Family Rooms or Single occupancy are
available at some hotels. Single occupancy
does incur a supplement and is not
guaranteed until we have received the
confirmation from resort upon request.
Please email
admin@disabilitysnowsport.org.uk should
you wish to request these.
9
New Important Booking Conditions
Sixty Days prior to each departure
will be a cut-off date for bookings.
After sixty days the brochure
prices will not be guaranteed.We
have to contact Crystal directly for
a possible new price.
Any changes made within 60 days
of departure may have a charge
involved.
Please read more terms and
conditions on page 19.

Due to the increasing amount of qualified instructors wanting to
attend activity trips we are planning a weekend training and
selection process that will aid the placement decision.
For each European trip we need level two and above adaptive
qualified instructors, however we would also like to offer the
opportunity to level one's to attend the trips to gain the experience
needed before moving to their next qualification.
This weekend is for any level one or two qualified instructor
wishing to attend an activity trip with DSUK this winter.
LEVEL ONES
The weekend will give you more experience with
the equipment and identify the key areas where
you feel confident to use your skills on the trip.
LEVEL TWO AND ABOVE
The weekend will give you an opportunity to
show us your skills and give you the opportunity
to discuss anything you are uncomfortable doing
on the trip.
ACTIVITY TRIP SELECTION
Trip selection will be dependent on fulfilling the
criteria. If you are not able to use all the skills
necessary it does not mean you will not be
selected but we would need to look at which
trip would have the right skiers for you to teach.
REFRESHERS
This weekend can also be used as a BASI
refresher. There will be a BASI £15 admin fee if
you would like it to be formalised with BASI.
TRAINING
Many DSUK instructors deliver training to
volunteers from all walks of life. This weekend is
an opportunity for you to learn the skills that we
use to help you pass on your adaptive
knowledge to others.
