PRE-DEPLOYMENT TRAINING – ENTRi COURSES Europe’s New Training Initiative for Civilian Crisis Management (ENTRi) is a capacity- building programme aiming to prepare and train civilians going to, or already working in, international crisis management missions. The ENTRi pre-deployment courses provide basic knowledge and skills required for deployment in an international crisis management mission. In addition to knowledge about the mission area of concern, the courses include sessions on actor mapping, gender integration, security issues and personal conduct. These courses address both seconded and contracted personnel in EU, UN, AU and OSCE missions. The FBA has conducted courses for Georgia, Afghanistan and South Sudan. For further information about ENTRi, please see www.entriforccm.eu These two courses are held within the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) framework. The ESDC is a network college. Civilian and military educational and research institutions in Europe, national universities, academies, colleges and institutes provide strategic-level education and training on Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) under the auspices of the ESDC. COURSE FOR POLITICAL ADVISERS IN INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS Leaders of crisis management and peace operations require qualified analysis and input from political advisers in order to make informed decisions and develop the best strategies for mandate implementation. Hence, political advisers need to have a deep understanding of both the specific context of the conflict as well as their organisation’s policies and dynamics, to be able to perform their duties in the best way. This course aims to strengthen the skills, capacities and competencies of political advisers in international organisations. The course includes knowledge and understanding about the roles and tasks of political advisers, analytical tools, advising techniques, speech writing, negotiation and public communication. CIVIL-MILITARY COORDINATION IN CSDP OPERATIONS The purpose of this course is to identify possibilities to apply a “comprehensive approach” to EU crisis management and develop capacities for coordination and cooperation between key actors. The course looks into areas such as mission planning, sharing of resources and information sharing. Emphasis is also put on challenges and best practices in coordination and cooperation with external actors. The course provides EU CSDP mission, operation and policy personnel at mid- and senior management level with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and practical skills of civilmilitary and civil-civil coordination and cooperation. The course is held within the framework of the European Security and Defence College. 9
