Knut Olivecrona had in Rosalie a spouse who was present in much of the
activities of interest for this study. They were complemental to each other, not
least in different reforming projects. Sometimes they followed parallel lines.
The German law professor Franz von Holtzendorff whom Knut Olivecrona
often corresponded with were also a correspondent of Rosalie Olivecrona
regarding women questions.1 When they had visited the reformatory for
juvenile (age eight to eighteen) offenders at Val d'Yèvre, founded by Charles
Lucas (père), they both wrote articles about it. 2 It occurred that they sent texts of
them both to a friend.3 In international correspondence, officially written by
Knut, their cooperation is manifest. Two hands had often been working on the
drafts, especially those in English that could be almost rewritten by Rosalie.4
There is no major biography of Knut Olivecrona. Interesting to note is that the
elder, and for later biographical texts very influential, of the two biographies in
Svenskt Biografiskt Lexikon was written by Rosalie Olivecrona, using the
pseudonym, ”St-”, and Knut Olivecrona wrote to the editor, Elof Tegnér, that he
wanted to read the proofs himself.5
Although women was almost invisible in debates and politics Rosalie
Olivecrona is an example that this wasn't due to lack of interest or activity. Also
Tidskrift för hemmet was an example of the opposite principle, here the activity
of men mostly was behind the scene.6 It's easy to follow 19th century patterns
and deduce that the overwhelming political and economic power of the men
