This year’s edition of the “la collection suisse” Year Book invites you to embark on another journey through part of Switzerland’s cultural history. On a record 116 pages, the Year Book contains all “the smallest works of art in the world” (as stamps are often called) issued by Swiss Post in 2005. “How time flies!” How often have you heard or even said this, or something similar? The passage of time lies in the nature of things. Clocks tick at the same rate for everyone, but time goes by at different speeds for each of us. Time, in the shape of clocks or watches, was the theme of one of our 2005 stamp issues. But the focus was not on a philosophical discussion of time but rather on the fact that Swiss watches have enjoyed an excellent international reputation for many years. Can people be ahead of their time? Yes, indeed, and not just in their mind. You’ll find some examples of this in the current “la collection suisse”. Creatively designed stamps are already heralding events that won’t happen until next year.
