at 7:15 p.m.<br />

EVERYONE wishing to participate in Powder Puff football must<br />

have a signed Powder Puff <strong>Football</strong> Permission Form and an<br />

Emergency Care Card on file with Ms. Saale in A209 by 2:30<br />

p.m. on Wednesday , September 19, 2012.<br />

No forms will be accepted after this time and date; therefore if<br />

you would like to participate in any element of Powder Puff<br />

<strong>Football</strong> (player, coach, cheerleader, dance team), you must<br />

have this completed by Wednesday!<br />

NO EXCEPTIONS<br />

WILL BE MADE!


GUIDELINES FOR POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL<br />

All games and practices (for players, student coaches,<br />

cheerleaders, and dance team members) shall be supervised by<br />

faculty members, and an athletic trainer must be present at the<br />

games.<br />

There will be written rules for the games (touch or flag), and they will<br />

be given to the participants and reviewed with them. Safe<br />

techniques of play will be demonstrated to the players.<br />

The fields for practices and games will be inspected and approved<br />

as a safe environment.<br />

Parental consent must be obtained in writing before students are<br />

allowed to practice or play in a game.<br />

EVERYONE wishing to participate in Powder Puff <strong>Football</strong> must have a<br />

signed Powder Puff Permission Form and an Emergency Care Card on file<br />

with Ms. Saale by Wednesday, September 19, 2012. No forms will be<br />

accepted after this date; therefore if you would like to participate in any<br />

element of Powder Puff <strong>Football</strong> (player, coach, cheerleader, dance<br />

team), you must have this completed by Friday. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE<br />

MADE!<br />

**Practices will be scheduled by your Class Advisors and coaches; you<br />

MUST attend at least five (5) practices to be eligible to play in the game.<br />

***Advisors must have final roster of eligible players to Maureen Saale no<br />

later than close of business on Friday, October 5 th , 2012


RULES FOR PLAYERS<br />

Practice may begin any time after Emergency Care Cards and Permission<br />

Forms have been collected.<br />

Each player must have participated in a minimum of 5 practices in order<br />

to play.<br />

Each player must wear some type of gym shoes - NO cleats.<br />

Each team member will wear the same color shirt as her team members,<br />

and each team will have different color shirts than the opposing team.<br />

-Seniors: Black/Gold<br />

-Juniors- Purple/White<br />

-Sophomores: Neon Yellow/ Black<br />

-Freshmen: Navy/Pink<br />

Mouth guards must be worn during practices AND games. (These are<br />

provided by the SGA; class sponsor will have them available at practice).<br />

You will only receive ONE mouth guard, if you lose it you will need to<br />

purchase a new one before being allowed to practice/play.<br />

RULES FOR COACHES<br />

All coaches of the same team must wear the same color shirts as their<br />

players in order to be spotted easily.<br />

Coaches must wear some type of gym shoes – NO cleats.<br />

Clipboards are optional.<br />

NO un-sportsmanlike conduct at any time (shouting at referees or<br />

players). If so, the coach will be ejected immediately from the game and<br />

asked to leave school grounds.<br />

Coaches CAN be students, SCSS faculty, or staff (Max: 2 coaches per<br />

team, at least one coach must be FCPS faculty/staff member).<br />

Coaches are NOT allowed to step onto the field at any time.<br />

Coaches should have some knowledge or experience with football.<br />

Coaches will run practices.<br />

Coaches are responsible for deciding who plays what and when (once<br />

everyone reaches paperwork requirements). All players should play.<br />

RULES FOR CHEERLEADERS AND DANCE TEAMS<br />

Cheerleaders are limited to 10 per squad.<br />

There shall be no acrobatics, pyramids, or other gymnastic “stunts” during<br />

practices or games.<br />

Both Cheerleaders and Dance Teams are responsible for making their<br />

own matching uniforms. (Cheerleaders should think about incorporating<br />

their teams color into their uniforms).<br />

Anything stuffed into shirts is not permitted.<br />

Skirts, (if you choose to wear them) may not be shorter than 3 or 4 inches<br />

above the knee.


POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL BASIC RULES<br />

1. Each player on the team must wear a flag belt.<br />

2. <strong>Flag</strong> belts may not be “tucked-in” or otherwise restricted from coming off.<br />

3. There shall be 11 players per team on the field at a time.<br />

4. There must be 7 players on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped.<br />

5. All players are eligible to catch a pass.<br />

6. First downs are obtained by moving the ball 10 yards under 4 plays.<br />

7. A player is considered down where his/her flag belt is pulled off by the defense,<br />

or if she falls to the ground.<br />

8. A team has 45 seconds to run a play once the ball has been spotted.<br />

9. All blocking has to be with arms held close to body – no extended arm blocking.<br />

10. A fumble is recovered by the first person to touch the ball on the ground. The ball<br />

will then be awarded to the team who touched it on the ground at the spot of<br />

the touch.<br />

11. Interceptions may be run back and a person is “tackled” by having their flag<br />

removed.<br />

12. All offensive players are eligible to catch a pass.<br />

13. The offense is only allowed one player in motion at the snap of the ball and they<br />

cannot be going towards the line of scrimmage.<br />

14. There is instant rush and you may rush as many defensive players as you desire.<br />

15. The ball carrier may not “stiff-arm” a potential tackler and the ball carrier has to<br />

make an attempt to run around the tackler rather than through her.<br />

16. Punts must be announced and no rushing the punter.<br />

17. Punts that hit the ground are dead at the spot where the ball hit; with the<br />

offensive team receiving the ball.<br />

18. All kickoffs occur from the 40 yard line. Any kickoff that hits the ground is dead at<br />

that spot with the offensive team receiving the ball.<br />

19. No jewelry of any time is to be worn by any player.<br />

20. The game will consist of 4-12 minute quarters with a running clock.<br />

21. There are no timeouts.<br />

22. Sportsmanship should be emphasized at all times by both teams and fans.<br />

Penalty Yardage<br />

1. Off sides or Encroachment 5 yards<br />

2. Offensive Holding 10 yards<br />

3. Defensive Holding 10 yards<br />

4. Pass Interference 10 yards<br />

5. Not enough players on line of scrimmage 5 yards<br />

6. Illegal Procedure 5 yards<br />

7. Un-sportsmanlike Conduct: 15 yards<br />

a. Tackling to the ground<br />

b. <strong>Flag</strong> belt tampered with (also, player ejection)<br />

c. Straight arm blocking<br />

d. Stiff arming or running over a defensive player<br />

e. Fighting (also, player ejection)


PARENTAL AUTHORIZATION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK<br />

(POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL PERMISSION FORM)<br />

I hereby grant permission for my student to participate in all Powder Puff <strong>Football</strong><br />

practices and the Powder Puff <strong>Football</strong> game to be held at South County High<br />

School, on October 10, 2012. I have read and understand the Guidelines and<br />

<strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> for Powder Puff <strong>Football</strong>. I understand that participation in this event<br />

by my child is completely voluntary, and that it will expose my child to potential<br />

injury. Further, I agree that my child, to the best of my knowledge, is medically<br />

able to participate.<br />
