I was born and raised on Long Island in 

Hicksville, NY. I’ve been married to my 

husband Larry for 22 years and have 

two children, Larry 21 and Victoria 17. I 

have an extremely close family. I’m very 

blessed to have both my parents and I 

have a younger brother Michael. My other 

two babies are my dogs Petey and Louie. 

I began seeing spirit at age 4. I suffered from anxiety for years 

until my mom suggested I go to a spiritual healer/teacher. I 

went to see Pat Longo and that’s how I found out that I had 

the ability to communicate with spirit. I have been a practicing 

medium for over 10 years and a certified medium with 

the Forever-Family Foundation – an organization dedicated 

llu to connecting science with the afterlife. People ask me to 

di describe the process of receiving information. It’s hard 

for me to describe because I see, hear and feel things 

differently than we do in the physical world. My wish

I have worked hard to keep the promises I made to you when 

I ran for office and now we need to plan for the future. 

DOWNTOWN: Continue the reconstruction, reinvention and 

revitalization of downtown with minimal impact to and much support for existing 

businesses. Re-design our traffic patterns offering optimal visibility for businesses 

and ample parking for patrons. Continue to promote innovative ideas that increase 

our ever-expanding tourism base, assuring a year round economy and a healthy 

year round business atmosphere. 

ECONOMY: Continue to retain our businesses through investment 

programs such as hotel renovation, façade improvement plans and interior redesign 

programs. Recruit new “green” businesses to create jobs for the 21st century through 

the expanded use and promotion of the I-Hub. Expand and continue to diversify our 

economy by active involvement in our redevelopment efforts; continue to strengthen 

our financial reserves through my active involvement in budgeting, financial 

oversight and innovative revenue generating programs such as those we created for 

the film and airline industries. I will continue to work closely with corporations and 

individuals interested in investing in Palm Springs. 

OUR NEIGHBORHOODS 

and QUALITY OF LIFE: Continue to open doors for citizen 

involvement through the Palm Springs Neighborhood Involvement Committee and 

our Boards and Commissions. Assure that neighborhoods are receiving the support 

they need from Measure J funds. As tourism increases I will work to make sure our 

quality of life is preserved and our public safety personnel have the resources to 

keep us safe. That will include overseeing strict adherence to the Vacation Rental 

and Event House Ordinance and funding neighborhood policing efforts. I will work 

to develop new parks including the Tahquitz Creek Master Plan and other 

opportunities for pocket parks throughout our city. 

SUSTAINABILITY: I will work to ensure that bike lanes are included 

when our streets are repaved, that drought tolerant landscaping is implemented 

whenever possible using water runoff or storm water and that the City takes 

advantage of solar power at every opportunity. I will continue to work on 

preserving open space and supporting the conversion of the Chino Cone to public 

lands. I will continue to preserve and promote our mid-century modern history 

and all other preservation efforts. 

MAJOR PROJECTS: Through my advocacy and with my leadership, 

we can be proud of our new and well-run homeless shelter for our less fortunate 

neighbors and the City’s new shelter for homeless pets. I will focus on ensuring 

that current services are secure and well-funded while working toward providing 

even more services at these two state-of-the-art facilities. I will also continue to 

work though my position on the Riverside County Transportation Commission and 

the CVAG Transportation Committee to advocate for daily rail service to the 

Coachella Valley.

In Chad Stephens’ case, he is rocking the paper with scissors! 

Using common card stock Chad creates a three-dimensional 

world of comic book heroes and villains, from Superman ® 

to Catwoman ®, to designer bags, from the Birken ® bag to 

Chanel ®. While his work may be full of whimsy, it is carefully 

constructed and created. In his studio Chad cuts tears, sands, 

shreds, paints and manipulates paper in varying weight to 

create these fanciful artworks. 

“I was inspired by the work of Ron Chespak,” said Chad. Ron 

Chespak died in 2005 at the age of 45 from liver disease. He 

had operated the 1254 Art Gallery in Laguna Beach and the 

Ron Chespak Gallery in Palm Springs. Chespak won many 

awards and was recognized world wide for his unique use of 

paper. Chespak’s work has been shown at the Guggenheim 

Museum in New York City, to the Olly-O children’s book. With 

Chespak as his mentor, Chad noted, “He released in me the 

notion that paper, as sculpture, was just as powerful as paper 

covered in words. I do not carry on his legacy, but I carry on 

the ideal that Chespak set in motion: That creativity knows no 

bounds and paper knows no limits”. 

The paper sculpture of Ron Chespak combined depth and 

composition with stark white objects, strong vivid color and 

graduated hues. Artist Chad Stephens, however, makes 

use of bright neon, pop art colors. The work is graphic and 

bold but relatable to all. “ I spend many hours creating each 

piece. I do not simply ‘cut’ paper,” said Chad. “The images I 

chose evoke many emotions – mostly positive joyful ones. 

Recognizable and iconic, my work is meant to evoke joy and 

what makes life fun.” 

Chad has taken the same paper and created wearable art. 

His super hero costumes have the look of leather and satin. 

“The costumes continue my quest to take paper beyond 

something on a pad. I love what I do. I love that my work is 

brings a smile to people. I love that I can take the ordinary 

and make it extraordinary.“ 

Rocking paper with scissors – Chad Stephens has it all

all doing well and enjoying autumn. Up here on the 

mountain we had our first snowfall on october 8th. That 

is the earliest i have ever seen it snow up here. But we 

do love our mountain life. 

Speaking of idyllwild, we have a HUGE new Year’s Eve show that will 

be at the historic rustic Theatre in the middle of idyllwild. The show 

theme is “going bananas” and the cast includes Marina Mac, Jersey 

Shore, Melissa Stratman, Carol Kamenis, Charles Herrera, Sassy ross and 

our Hostess with the Mostest Bella da Ball. All of this is produced and 

directed by my wonderful husband Kevin Baar. 

The show will also include idyllwild’s very own pinkie Meringue Shimmer 

and singer Betty Anderson. This is a show you do not want to miss......

Aaron was inspired to play the piano as a child by listening to 

his father's collection of 70's jazz records. At age ten he convinced 

his parents to buy a piano and he began taking lessons. 

He was playing regularly in church by age 12 in his hometown 

of Decatur, Illinios. Jim Culbertson (father of famed contemporary 

jazz muscian Brian Culbertson), placed him in the highschool 

jazz band his first year. After moving with his family to 

Salt Lake City when he was 15, his father chaparoned him 

while he played at jams in local clubs. 

Aaron has studied with leading jazz educators, including Henry 

Wolking (University of Utah) and Ken Green in Salt Lake City 

and Rick Helzer (San Diego State University). In addition to 

piano, he also plays the organ and percussion instruments. He 

holds B.A. and an M.B.A. from San Diego State University. 

He is experienced in performing jazz standards and popular 

classics solo, as an accompanist, and in a group. His style may 

be described as a combination of mood music, chill, and upbeat 

jazz lounge. He just finished a sucessful 4-year gig (2007- 

2011) performing at Martinis Above Fourth in San Diego on 

Saturday nights. In 2011 he won a "Nicky" award from the local 

San Diego community for "best entertainer." Aaron is currently 

working on a project with singer Amelia Browning.

About Amelia 

Amelia Browning’s mother sang jazz tunes to her instead of lullabies. 

It’s easy to understand why those very songs and that style 

of music began to fill her waking hours as well. As an up and 

coming jazz vocalist, Amelia Browning, draws on these childhood 

influences as well as her years of vocal training and performance 

to deliver tunes in expressive and unique ways. 

Born in Boston, Browning was raised in a family with a great love 

of music and connections to diverse cultural influences that provided 

rich soil for her musical growth. Browning’s love of singing 

drew her to music that lyrically expressed the universal, across 

genres, but jazz was imprinted on her soul and remains her 

primary influence. Her family relocated to California where she 

began classical vocal training at the age of twelve. In the years 

that followed, Browning continued to develop her voice, singing 

in various chamber groups, state honor choirs, and musical theater 

in addition to her private vocal training and direction in style 

and techniques with various teachers. 

Being accepted to the Berklee College of Music took Browning 

back to Boston where her passion for music continued to thrive 

and her horizons were expanded. Encouraged by voice instructor 

Robin McElhatten, Browning added some pop, folk and R 

& B to her repertoire. This influence gave Browning’s style and 

song selection a different edge that set her apart. Browning also 

continued to hone her chops through private instruction in jazz 

improvisation with Bob Stoloff. In addition to performing in clubs 

and doing private gigs, Browning has regularly participated in 

jazz jams where her fine vocal skills are illuminated and challenged 

each time she is on stage. Harry Williams says of Browning, 

"She brings something fresh to the scene. Her sweet tone 

and artful phrasing add new sauce to those familiar tunes, new 

and old." These jams have allowed her to meet and to form musical 

relationships with remarkable talents on both coasts. 

Browning’s graduation from Berklee, relocation to Southern California, 

and the release of her first album, “Little Jazz Bird” mark 

the beginning of an exciting future. With one listen to the smoky 

tones of Amelia Browning, balanced between tradition and 

improvisation, 6 sweetness and sass, you'll be hooked. According

CENTRAL LIBRARY: 

What a great turnout there 

was on Saturday September 

29th 2013, for the dedication 

of San Diego’s new Central 

Library located at 330 Park 

Blvd (Downtown in the East Village, Park Boulevard at 11th Avenue, Near 

Petco Park). This $185 Million dollar facility was official dedicated to all 

San Diegans. Interim Mayor Todd Gloria invites all to visit the new Central 

Library. 

Gloria said , “When you walk through the doors of this library, I hope you can call 

it your home. This is your Library.” 

And what a Library it is! There is more then just books. My first stop was the 

Sanford Children’s Library area on the first floor. 

As my husband walked around a room decorated in bright colors and art murals 

of Dr. Seuss on the walls, he said “This area is the size of most library’s”. 

Children have access to 30 kid size computer work stations and there are more 

then 56,000 printed volumes divided into age groups from 11 years and younger, 

with story-time and a play areas. I’m sure this will put many smiles on many 

faces.... 

There is a wonderful courtyard to relax and just read. Or have a cup of coffee 

in the cafe, which will open at the end of the year. A library gift shop with 

museum-quality literary themed gifts. There is also a 350 seat auditorium. As you 

enter the open air lobby, you look up to a three story grand entrance featuring a 

dramatic gravity arch. The sixth and seventh floor are host to the first 3 charter 

high schools to be in a central library of a Major City. For all you baseball fans, 

you must visit the 8th floor which houses the Sullivan Family Baseball Research 

Center. It is now home to the Ted Williams Chapter of the Society of American 

Baseball Research Collection. Here you can relax in the People’s Penthouse, and 

view the bay and the Coronado Bridge in a glass cube. I can go on and on, but 

this is a must see on your next day off, or your visit to American’s Finest City: San 

Diego. 

There are nine floors to explore and on every floor there is something interesting. 

You will want to come back again and again to explore what each floor has to 

offer. I am happy to say that there is parking in the basement area, as most of us 

here in San Diego know parking is rare. There are 250 parking spaces, which are 

free for a limited time with library validation.

Introducing Team, “Power of 6” This was a Dream of mine I had to get all organizations 

together to work for a cause and it is proven that different areas of the gay 

community can come together and make a great things happen. I am so proud 

to be a member of the San Diego Gay Community & Power of 6. There are great 

and wonderful people everywhere. The six organizations coming together as one 

are: The Imperial Court De San Diego, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence San 

Diego, Bears San Diego, Leather Foundation San Diego, The Transgenders, & 

Roado S.D. Pulling our forces together, we show a strength. But like I have said, 

it takes a Village. Sunday November 29th offers a great change for the community 

to show once again its determination, generosity, and love-- The key behind the 

walk is Community! All walking for awareness and treatment. We are all different, 

but we are all the same, Together. We all can make a huge difference. Here is

As she heats it up for a great cause, The Toni Atkins Lesbian Health Fund, which 

was started as the Lesbian Health Project in the early 1990’s and is further proof 

of the Imperial Court’s commitment to lesbian health issues. The Toni Atkins Lesbian 

Health Fund (Named in honor of former Deputy Mayor and now Assembly 

Majority Leader, 78th District at California State Assembly, Toni Atkins) was established 

by the Imperial Court de San Diego and the Center to assist low-income 

and uninsured lesbians and bisexual women in accessing necessary health care 

resources. 

Ms. San Diego Pride 2013, Terry Nunez, a Latina Lesbian, is always ready to lend 

a hand when it come to helping others. I once heard that Terry Nunez’s middle 

name should be ‘Volunteer’, as she is always ready to jump in and help. You can 

often find her volunteering or working to raise funds for the many causes she 

believes in, such as the HIV/Aids services and the many programs of the ICSD. 

So don’t let her size fool you. She does things BIG. On October 25th, you will 

see--so come on out and support the Toni Atkins Lesbian Health Fund and meet 

Ms. San Diego Gay Pride 2013 and dip in to the Salsa......
