Otago Rep Teams: Did they jump, or were they pushed?
Remember when the season was rounded off by Otago representative matches
against Canterbury and Southland? I do… and I asked Footballsouth what happened
to them. After four months pursuing the question, the final answer that I received was
that these fixtures ‘seemed to die out
some years ago’. Upon investigation, it
appears that this might have been
more a case of Footballsouth
‘withdrawing life support’; the quiet
withdrawal of sustenance in the
expectation that the patient will slip
away silently in the night. And we have!
We players wander around
aimlessly looking at each other and
shrugging our shoulders, mystified by yet
another unexplained (and possibly
inexplicable) decision by Footballsouth.
I would like to see the minutes of the
meeting at which the decision was made
to pull the plug on these fixtures but
Footballsouth are ‘unaware of any formal
minutes, rules etc governing this
process’. Hard to believe that nobody
knows what’s gone on?
I’m told that the Masters from
Canterbury and Southland are still keen;
so any Masters out there up for it? I’ve
volunteered to organise this for the Masters, but I’m not a one-man-team. Ask your
Masters Rep to get in touch. Anyone who wants the full, unabridged correspondence
between Footballsouth and me, drop me an E-mail at colin.brown@otago.ac.nz.
great turn and hit from a Braes striker managed to put the Braes in front and secure their
win. It was another day where it was safe to say Varsity held the control of the game all
throughout the 90 minutes but once again failed to convert their possession to anything
in the final third. A disappointing but deserved result.
3rds drew 2-2 with Dunedin Technical. Bones had another great game. Terry Parle
4ths beat Caversham 4-1. Fresher will remember names next time!
Girls had no game this week.
