responsible stewardship of donor support governed KexP’s<br />
fiscal decision-making in <strong>2011</strong>, allowing us to invest further<br />
in developing programming services while ending the year<br />
strong with 6.2 months of operating coverage in our cash<br />
reserves. KexP’s total revenues in <strong>2011</strong> were $5,670,628.<br />
INDIVIDUAL AND BUSINESS SUPPORT<br />
contributions from 13,939 individual donors, donor-directed<br />
funds, corporate matching programs, and family foundations<br />
generated $2,547,150, representing 45 percent—and the<br />
largest portion—of KexP’s total revenue. Boosted by media<br />
attention around KexP’s campaign to move to seattle center<br />
and signs of a stabilizing economy, support from businesses<br />
surpassed projections, with more than 300 local and national<br />
businesses accounting for $1,179,199 (or 21 percent of total<br />
revenue), a significant 15 percent increase from the previous<br />
year.<br />
PROGRAM SERVICE REVENUE<br />
Programming ventures beyond the airwaves—including<br />
concession and ticket sales at events and concerts, as well<br />
as sales of Live at <strong>KEXP</strong> Volume Seven—accounted for three<br />
percent of total revenue.<br />
CORPORATE, FOUNDATION,<br />
AND GOVERNMENT SUPPORT<br />
KexP received support from several private organizations<br />
in <strong>2011</strong>, including ongoing contributions from Microsoft<br />
community affairs for the improvement of online services<br />

and to boost unified internal communication and calendaring<br />
services. in addition, the corporation for Public Broadcasting<br />
provided funding through the american archive content<br />
inventory Project to facilitate an inventory of KexP’s music<br />
library in preparation for digitization; support for KexP’s<br />
community Partnership initiative came from u.s. Bancorp<br />
foundation; and a grant from the seattle foundation helped<br />
to offset general operating expenses.<br />
government support for KexP included a grant from the<br />
seattle office of arts and cultural affairs to finance Audioasis,<br />
seattle’s longest-running local music radio show. in addition,<br />
KexP received funding for its <strong>2011</strong> programs—including the<br />
fourth annual Concerts at the Mural series—from 4culture.<br />
IN-KIND SUPPORT<br />
KexP received notable in-kind support from individuals,<br />
organizations, and local and national businesses in the form of<br />
goods and services worth $1.5 million. of that in-kind support,<br />
$1.4 million came from KexP’s key partner, the university<br />
of Washington, from whom we received engineering, it,<br />
fundraising, and business system support.<br />
EXPENSES<br />
KexP’s total expenses in <strong>2011</strong> were $5,377,446, with 60<br />
percent of that amount dedicated to Programs. fundraising<br />
and administrative costs accounted for the remaining 34<br />
percent and 6 percent, respectively.<br />
