Donna Mae Maeseele
Donna Mae Maeseele, 82, died
Monday, March 5, 2012, in Corona,
California. She was a resident at Emeritus
Senior Living.
Donna was born on May 31, 1929, in
Los Angeles to Charles W. Love and Ethel
Blassman Love. She was the middle child,
having two older sisters, Vivian and
Evelyn, and a younger brother and sister,
Charlie and Barbara.
In 1948 she married John F. Maeseele
and began raising their family in Los
Angeles. They moved the family to
Anaheim in 1955 where they resided until
John’s death in 1986.
Throughout her life, Donna had been
an avid sports fan, enjoyed baseball and
particularly loved West Fullerton Bobby
Sox. She was a manager and coach for
many years and later in life was always
delighted when one of her former team
members stopped her to say hello. She
played softball herself and suffered a seriously
sprained ankle sliding in to third
base in her early 60’s. She was much more
upset that she was tagged out than she was
about the injury!
Donna was fiercely independent and
after John’s death she moved to Cedar
City, Utah, bought a small home and did
all the necessary rehab her self. She’d
travel to a creek bed and load rocks into
her pickup truck, bring them back to her
yard and decorate with the river rock.
Usually when family members would go
to visit, Mom would mention this “special”
rock that was just a little too far, or a
little too heavy and before long you were
bumping over the rocky trails with her to
help wrestle her newest treasure.
Reading was her special joy and her personal
library was impressive. When she
was first diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, we
couldn’t believe it because she could still
finish the New York Times crossword puzzle
in record time each day.
Fullerton School District employed
Mom as a school bus driver and later as a
driver trainer for over 20 years. She would
compete in the Bus Rodeos and it was fun
to watch her blast that big bus through
the diminishing clearance test. She was
awarded a certificate by the CHP after
taking a Crown bus through a 360 degree
spin on a skid pad in Sacramento.
Donna is survived by four children,
Rene (Kathy) of Fullerton, Marie Diehl
(Jim) of Corona, Larry (Missy) of
Fontana, and Lynn (Dawn) of Wyoming,
twelve grandchildren and sixteen greatgrandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, Donna
will be cremated and her ashes will be
scattered at sea in the same area as her
husband’s had been. Thomas Miller
Mortuary, of Corona, is in charge of the
arrangements.
If you remember Donna and would like
to do something in her honor, please support
the Bobby Sox program or any sports
teams that help build healthy young people.
