Committee on Public Policy<br />
A. PURPOSE<br />
Working with the <strong>Alliance</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Children</strong> and <strong>Families</strong> membership and staff, to develop<br />
public policy positions <strong>for</strong> adoption by the Board of Directors, and to oversee and give<br />
impetus to the <strong>Alliance</strong>’s public policy agenda and action.<br />
To make legislators at state and federal levels aware of the <strong>Alliance</strong> and critical issues<br />
affecting children and families.<br />
B. RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
The <strong>Alliance</strong> staff has the basic responsibility to monitor public policy developments,<br />
conduct research and in<strong>for</strong>m the Committee of critical issues and opportunities which<br />
may impact or threaten children and families or affect the ability of <strong>Alliance</strong> agencies to<br />
serve their communities. The Public Policy Committee will:<br />
1. Review public policy and program changes in light of the actual or potential<br />
impact on children and families and on the service field.<br />
2. Recommend that the <strong>Alliance</strong> act, where appropriate, to strengthen and protect its<br />
interests and those of its members.<br />
3. Work to strengthen the <strong>Alliance</strong>’s capacity to assist agencies to protect their<br />
interests and those of children and families at the federal, state and local levels.<br />
4. Cultivate relationships and enlist the assistance of key (legislative and executive)<br />
government leaders by:<br />
a. in<strong>for</strong>ming them about the <strong>Alliance</strong>, its programs and critical issues affecting<br />
families.<br />
b. developing ways to recognize their work in sponsoring significant legislation<br />
and regulations affecting children and families and the service field.<br />
C. TERMS<br />
Members will have one to three year staggered terms with six new members being<br />
appointed each year.<br />
