Subject: <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong><br />
F<strong>in</strong>e <strong>Art</strong>s Fair returns to <strong>Freeport</strong>’s Krape <strong>Park</strong><br />
<strong>Freeport</strong>, IL‐ <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> park is a one‐day outdoor arts festival celebrat<strong>in</strong>g local visual and<br />
perform<strong>in</strong>g arts <strong>in</strong> beautiful Krape <strong>Park</strong>. On Sunday, September 6, <strong>2009</strong> from 10 AM to 5 PM,<br />
this FREE community event offers someth<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> whole family. <strong>Art</strong>ists from across Nor<strong>the</strong>rn<br />
Ill<strong>in</strong>ois and surround<strong>in</strong>g areas will display <strong>the</strong>ir work, from pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs and photography to<br />
woodwork<strong>in</strong>g, ceramics and metal craft<strong>in</strong>g. Musicians and perform<strong>in</strong>g artists will also be<br />
featured. Children and families can create <strong>the</strong>ir own art work at a hands‐on activity area or<br />
watch as professional artists demonstrate <strong>the</strong>ir skills.<br />
Recreation Supervisor for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Freeport</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong>, Rebecca M<strong>in</strong>kwitz, says “The <strong>Freeport</strong> <strong>Park</strong><br />
<strong>District</strong> is pleased to host <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> and we are happy to welcome <strong>the</strong> event back for its<br />
second year. <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> 2008 had roughly 4,500 people <strong>in</strong> attendance.” <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> was<br />
nom<strong>in</strong>ated and recently won <strong>the</strong> Ill<strong>in</strong>ois <strong>Park</strong> and Recreation Association Outstand<strong>in</strong>g Program<br />
of <strong>the</strong> Year Award. M<strong>in</strong>kwitz says, “This is such an honor. <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> would not have been<br />
as successful without <strong>the</strong> help and support from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Freeport</strong> community.”<br />
<strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is a cooperative effort between <strong>the</strong> <strong>Freeport</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Freeport</strong> <strong>Art</strong><br />
Museum. “The <strong>Art</strong> Museum is proud to be part of this collaboration and create opportunities<br />
for <strong>the</strong> community to connect with artists,” says Jennifer Kirker, Director to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Freeport</strong> <strong>Art</strong><br />
Museum. People’s Choice Awards will be presented to <strong>Art</strong>ists for Best <strong>in</strong> Show and Best Display.<br />
Not only will visitors be able to see exquisite artwork from a variety of talented artists, <strong>the</strong>y will<br />
also be able to purchase artwork for <strong>the</strong>ir personal collection.<br />
The outdoor location at Krape <strong>Park</strong> will set <strong>the</strong> stage for <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong>. In addition to <strong>the</strong><br />
activities planned for <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong>, visitors can also explore <strong>the</strong> amenities of Krape <strong>Park</strong>; an<br />
antique work<strong>in</strong>g carousel, Yellow Creek and paddleboat rentals, fenced <strong>in</strong> duck farm, fish<strong>in</strong>g<br />
area, waterfall, children’s play areas, m<strong>in</strong>iature golf and much more. Food will be available from<br />
several local vendors.
The <strong>Art</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> plann<strong>in</strong>g committee is currently accept<strong>in</strong>g visual and perform<strong>in</strong>g artist<br />
