Installation-Instructions: AIC- Flow meters
Type: AIC 888 INSTRUKTOR
Prerequisite : Installation is do be done by an qualified engineer who is experienced in working
with diesel fuel feed systems and diesel fuel and who is aware of all associated hazards. For
loosen banjo bolts and nuts hold the basic fittings on the flow meter with an 19 mm fork wrench.
For leakage on fittings and when the flow meter is external damaged by improper handling all
warranty-claims are revoked.
The AIC-Flow meter is a high precision instrument. It must be handled consequently.
Points to note :
1.) Fit the AIC-measuring unit in as near as possible of the fuel tank, on a chassis-member or on a
support behind the cab, or in the engine compartment (Busses and Coaches).
The measuring unit should not be subjected to a stream of hot air, i.e. from the exhaust pipe or the
turbocharger.
Note : Never fit the measuring-unit on the engine body or on a part interdependent with it
(vibration).
2.) The position of the flow meter is indifferent.
For short-time –tests, the flow meter can be attached and secured with sandows on the top of the fuel
tank or on the top of the battery case. Make sure that the flow meter is well attached!
For longer tests we recommend to fit the flow meter with the mounting bracket AIC 888 100:
Mont the bracket with 1 or two screws M10. Take off the two Allen screws M6 on the right side
of the flow meter, place it into the bracket and screw in the two Allen screws again.
3.) The connection of the AIC-measuring-unit into the fuel-feed system is done in accordance with the
attached connection-diagrams. Important: The flow meter is installed on the suction side of the fuel
system. The fuel lines must be properly installed and the connections must be absolutely tighten. The
interior diameter of the installed fuel hose to connect the vehicles fuel lines to the flow meter must be
minimum 9 mm. Make sure that absolutely no restriction of the fuel lines arise during installation.
4.) If the original fuel lines of the Truck are screwed on the fuel tank-fittings, it is advantageous to fit the
fuel lines, necessary to connect the AIC-measuring-unit, with appropriate fittings.(This permits a “non
destructive” connection.) Optionally connection-kits for different Trucks are available. The pin of the
quick coupling must be fitted on the fuel return line.
5.) Bleeding the fuel-system : Very important !!! The accuracy is only warranted if the fuel circuit of the
engine is perfectly vented. During fitting of the flow meter air is penetrating into the fuel-system. It is
absolutely essential that this air is completely evacuated by bleeding the fuel-system.
The easiest system to vent, step by step:
A.) On the quick coupling of the flow meter disconnect the return-line coming from the injection-system.
B.) Introduce the return-line into the filler-cap of the fuel-tank or into an other receptacle.
C.) Start the engine and run it in fast-idling rpm.
Run the engine minimum 15 minutes and still clear fuel without air bubbles com out.
D.) Stop the engine and connect the return-line to quick-coupling of the flow meter.
It is absolutely essential that all air is completely evacuated !!!!
Never blast pressed air into the flow meter !
