Ariel Quartet
Although still in their early twenties, 2008 marked the Ariel Quartet’s 10th anniversary season. Founded in
Jerusalem in 1998, the group includes all four of its original members, allowing them to perform with the
intensity and passion of a young quartet, and the conviction and cohesiveness of veterans.
Dedicated to upholding the grand tradition of world class string quartet playing, the Ariel Quartet feels a
deep connection to the staples of string quartet literature, including those of Beethoven, Schubert, Bartok,
Mozart, and Haydn, while also understanding the importance of exploring music by living composers.
The Quartet also believes in the enduring relevance of presenting great works in the traditional concert hall,
while at the same time recognizing the power of chamber music to develop new audiences through
programs in schools and in the community.
Having already gathered an impressive resume of awards and performance experience, the Ariel String
Quartet recently graduated from the New England Conservatory's prestigious String Quartet Program, and
their final Jordan Hall recital ended an enriched 6 years of the quartet's studies in Boston. This season the
Quartet resides in Basel, Switzerland, and is working with the 1st violinist of the renowned LaSalle Quartet,
Walter Levin.
