Facts about <strong>Gobabeb</strong> <br />

Founded <strong>in</strong> 1962 by Dr. Charles Koch. 50 th anniversary!!! S<strong>in</strong>ce then <br />

<strong>Gobabeb</strong> has been conducOng environmental research <strong>in</strong> the Namib Desert <br />

Climate <strong>in</strong> brief: extremely arid, moderate seasonality, <br />

moderate annual and diurnal temperature amplitude <br />

In 50 years: 331 ra<strong>in</strong>y days, total of 1213 mm, <br />

average 25 mm, wedest year 2011 (159 mm) <br />

Currently: MPI for Biogeochemistry Jena → tall tower site → trace gas monitor<strong>in</strong>g → GAW dataset. <br />
