similar to the RiverWalk project in San<br />
Antonio, Texas. The MCRA anticipates<br />
selecting a developer in late 2008.<br />
Miramar<br />
Miramar’s planned corporate campuses,<br />
designed expressly to meet the needs of clean<br />
industry, have made the city a preferred<br />
locale for major corporations and Fortune<br />
500 companies. Now, a new 54-acre Town<br />
Center has become the city’s focal point.<br />
It is designed as an idyllic traditional<br />
downtown with pedestrian-oriented streets,<br />
beautiful Mediterranean-style architecture,<br />
main street storefronts, and waterfront<br />
views. Conveniently located in the center of<br />
Miramar, it will soon house a cultural center<br />
and arts park, public library, educational<br />
facilities, businesses, retail space, restaurants,<br />
cafes, and a transportation hub, as well as<br />
condominiums and townhomes, garden<br />
apartments and live-work units, all joining<br />
the award-winning City Hall. Completion of<br />
the site is scheduled for 2011.<br />
Oakland Park<br />

with zoning in place for a walkable urban<br />
community, a new park and dozens of<br />
townhomes, lush landscaping and mixed-use<br />
developments.<br />
Parkland<br />
The city recently opened its Community<br />
Center and Amphitheater, a major addition<br />
to Parkland’s recreation system. The city<br />
is also building a new Public Works/Fire<br />
Station building at the Old City Hall<br />
site. The “green” building will provide a<br />
centralized location for all Public Works<br />
operations and to provide a state-of-the-art<br />
fire station facility.<br />
Pembroke Pines<br />
A vibrant City Center is planned that will<br />
have an old-fashioned neighborhood feel and<br />
a place where residents can shop, work, enjoy<br />
an outdoor concert, and sit in the park.<br />
Plantation<br />
Plantation Midtown, with more than 860<br />
acres, is the largest commercial district<br />
in the City of Plantation. This district is<br />
slated for a renaissance as a live, work<br />
and play Town Center for Plantation and<br />
central <strong>Broward</strong>. Two new redevelopment<br />
projects will provide luxury apartment and<br />
condominium units within walking distance<br />
of Class A office space, retail shopping and<br />
services, dining options and entertainment.<br />
The Residences at the Fountains includes a<br />
one-acre linear park and a transit stop. One<br />
Plantation Place is located at the southern<br />
gateway to the city’s evolving Midtown<br />
District. Redevelopment plans call for a<br />
vibrant, mixed use “Main Street” destination<br />
at I-595 and University Drive.<br />
Pompano Beach<br />
With its convenient transportation links, the<br />
city is home to over 28 million square feet<br />
of industrial/ warehouse/ distribution space.<br />
There are also opportunities to develop<br />
Class A office space in the CRA’s northwest<br />
area. The city is also developing a master<br />
plan for its beach area and has contracted<br />
with the Urban Land Institute to study<br />
its Atlantic Boulevard corridor and make<br />
recommendations on improving the area.<br />
The CRA offers development incentives<br />
for both residential and commercial<br />
development.<br />
