similar to the RiverWalk project in San
Antonio, Texas. The MCRA anticipates
selecting a developer in late 2008.
Miramar
Miramar’s planned corporate campuses,
designed expressly to meet the needs of clean
industry, have made the city a preferred
locale for major corporations and Fortune
500 companies. Now, a new 54-acre Town
Center has become the city’s focal point.
It is designed as an idyllic traditional
downtown with pedestrian-oriented streets,
beautiful Mediterranean-style architecture,
main street storefronts, and waterfront
views. Conveniently located in the center of
Miramar, it will soon house a cultural center
and arts park, public library, educational
facilities, businesses, retail space, restaurants,
cafes, and a transportation hub, as well as
condominiums and townhomes, garden
apartments and live-work units, all joining
the award-winning City Hall. Completion of
the site is scheduled for 2011.
Oakland Park
Downtown redevelopment is underway

with zoning in place for a walkable urban
community, a new park and dozens of
townhomes, lush landscaping and mixed-use
developments.
Parkland
The city recently opened its Community
Center and Amphitheater, a major addition
to Parkland’s recreation system. The city
is also building a new Public Works/Fire
Station building at the Old City Hall
site. The “green” building will provide a
centralized location for all Public Works
operations and to provide a state-of-the-art
fire station facility.
Pembroke Pines
A vibrant City Center is planned that will
have an old-fashioned neighborhood feel and
a place where residents can shop, work, enjoy
an outdoor concert, and sit in the park.
Plantation
Plantation Midtown, with more than 860
acres, is the largest commercial district
in the City of Plantation. This district is
slated for a renaissance as a live, work
and play Town Center for Plantation and
central Broward. Two new redevelopment
projects will provide luxury apartment and
condominium units within walking distance
of Class A office space, retail shopping and
services, dining options and entertainment.
The Residences at the Fountains includes a
one-acre linear park and a transit stop. One
Plantation Place is located at the southern
gateway to the city’s evolving Midtown
District. Redevelopment plans call for a
vibrant, mixed use “Main Street” destination
at I-595 and University Drive.
Pompano Beach
With its convenient transportation links, the
city is home to over 28 million square feet
of industrial/ warehouse/ distribution space.
There are also opportunities to develop
Class A office space in the CRA’s northwest
area. The city is also developing a master
plan for its beach area and has contracted
with the Urban Land Institute to study
its Atlantic Boulevard corridor and make
recommendations on improving the area.
The CRA offers development incentives
for both residential and commercial
development.
