GIANTS NOTES:
- Set a Giants franchise record with 6.0
sacks vs. Philadelphia on Sept. 23, 2007,
surpassing the old mark of 4.5 sacks by
Pepper Johnson at Tampa Bay on Nov. 24,
1991.
- From 2004-10, Umenyiora was the
Giants’ sole or shared leader in sacks in 6 of
seven seasons, missing only 2008, when he
did not play a game after undergoing knee
surgery. He was the team sack leader in
four consecutive seasons with 7.0 in 2004,
14.5 in 2005, 6.0 in 2006 and 13.0 in 2007,
and again with 7.0 in 2009. He was tied
with Justin Tuck for the team lead in 2010
with 11.5. Umenyiora was the first Giant to
top the team in sacks four years in a row
since Lawrence Taylor led the team in five
consecutive seasons from 1986-90. Michael
Strahan was No. 1 in sacks each season
from 1995-98, but shared the 1996 lead
with Chad Bratzke.
- Has 74.0 career regular-season sacks,
which place him 4th on the Giants’ official
career list (since 1982, when sacks were 1st
recognized)…He is 5.5 sacks behind No. 3
Leonard Marshall.
- Umenyiora is the only player in Giants
history with three touchdowns on fumble
returns.
- Was voted to the Pro Bowl following the
2005 and 2007 seasons.

- Has played in 125 regular-season games
with 87 starts and in 10 postseason games
with seven starts at right defensive end…
Career totals include 401 tackles (270 solo),
74.0 sacks, 12 passes defensed, 32 forced
fumbles and 13 fumble recoveries in the
regular season, and 29 tackles (22 solo), 3.5
sacks and two forced fumbles in the postseason.
- Has been named NFC Defensive Player
of the Week twice, Special Teams Player of
the Week once and Defensive Player of the
Month once.
2012 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:
- Made his second start of the season at
Washington (12/3)...Assisted on a tackle and
recorded a QB hit on Robert Griffin III.
- Played at defensive end vs. Green Bay
(11/25)...Recorded a strip-sack on Aaron
Rodgers and two solo tackles.
- Played defensive end at Cincinnati and
recorded four tackles (two solo).
- Played defensive end vs. Pittsburgh
(11/4)...His sack and forced fumble on Ben
Roethlisberg led to Michael Boley’s 70-yard
return for a touchdown in the second quarter...Also
added seven tackles (five solo).
- Played defensive end at Dallas (10/28)
and recorded one tackle...Part of a Giants
defense that forced six Cowboys turnovers
and allowed just 19 rushing yards for the
contest.
- Played in the defensive line rotation vs.
Washington (10/21) and recorded two tackles
(one solo) including a six-yard sack on
Robert Griffin III in the fourth quarter.
- Recorded first start of season at San
Francisco (10/14)...Part of the Giants defensive
unit that allowed just three points...
Part of the Giants’ defense that held San
Francisco to 80 rushing yards, 115.8 yards
less than the Niners’ league-leading total
entering the game.
- Played in the defensive line rotation and
recorded six tackles (3 solo) against the
Browns (10/7).
