THIRD ATTACKMAN<br />

In 2005 and 2006, Dan Flannery played alongside<br />

Matt Danowski and Zack Greer on <strong>Duke</strong>’s starting<br />

attack unit and finished his career with 79 goals and 70<br />

assists ... Filling the void in 2007 was sophomore<br />

Gibbs Fogarty and freshman Max Quinzani ...<br />

Fogarty ranked seventh on the team in scoring with<br />

14 points while Quinzani produced 24 goals and four<br />

assists.<br />

MORE ON QUINZANI<br />

Freshman Max Quinzani cracked the starting lineup<br />

for the ACC Championship game against Virginia on<br />

April 29, and responded with a pair of goals as <strong>Duke</strong><br />

downed the Cavaliers, 12-9, to claim the title ... The<br />

Duxbury, Mass., product finished the year ranking<br />

third on the team this season with 24 goals, and registered<br />

at least one tally in 10 of the last 12 contests ...<br />

During that 12-game stretch, Quinzani logged 19 goals<br />

including a season-best three versus both Air Force<br />

(5/6) and North Carolina (5/20).<br />

O’HARA MAKES IT THREE STRAIGHT<br />

Senior Nick O’Hara, a first team All-America selection<br />

in 2007, paced the Blue Devils in ground balls for the<br />

third consecutive year ... As a sophomore in 2005,<br />

O’Hara secured a <strong>Duke</strong>-best 78 grounders as the Blue<br />

Devils went 17-3 and advanced to the NCAA championship<br />

game ... In 2006, the Orchard Park, N.Y.,<br />

native had a team-high 31 ground balls ... In 20 games<br />

of the 2007 campaign, O’Hara scooped up a <strong>Duke</strong>best<br />

84 ground balls and his 4.20 grounders per game<br />

ranked fourth in the ACC.<br />

DUKE CAPTAINS<br />

Serving as captains for the Blue Devils in 2007 were<br />

seniors Matt Danowski and Ed Douglas ... The<br />

players were elected by their teammates.<br />

GOALS FOR GREER<br />

In 2007, the Blue Devils’ Zack Greer ranked first in the<br />

nation with his 67 goals scored — the third-highest<br />

single-season total in NCAA history ... In 2005, Greer<br />

led the nation in goals scored with 57, a total that ranks<br />

15th on the NCAA’s all-time single-season chart ...<br />

Greer bettered his own ACC single-season record for<br />

goals in 2007, and he joined former Virginia standout<br />

Doug Knight as the only two players in league history<br />

to register two seasons with 50 or more goals.<br />

LOFTUS IN GOAL<br />

Goalkeeper Dan Loftus started all 20 games for the<br />

Blue Devils in 2007 and earned USILA Third Team All-<br />

America honors ... He started all eight games in 2006,<br />

posting a 5.16 goals against average and .687 save<br />

percentage ... In 2007, Loftus led the ACC in both<br />

goals against average (7.70) and save percentage<br />

(.614) ... The Syosset, N.Y., native earned a spot on<br />

the ACC All-Tournament team following his 14-save<br />

performance in <strong>Duke</strong>’s championship game win over<br />

Virginia on April 29.<br />

FRESHMAN IMPACT<br />

<strong>Duke</strong> had just three scholarship freshmen on the roster<br />

in 2007 — Parker McKee, Terrence Molinari and<br />

Max Quinzani — and all three made an immediate<br />

impact ... McKee was <strong>Duke</strong>’s top defensive reserve<br />

while Molinari won 11-of-18 face-offs against North<br />

Carolina in the NCAA Quarterfinals ... Quinzani ranked<br />

fourth on the team with his 24 goals on the year.<br />

ACC ACCOLADES<br />

<strong>Duke</strong>’s Matt Danowski garnered his second ACC<br />

Player of the Year trophy in 2007, joining Maryland’s<br />

Joe Walters (2004 & 2006) and North Carolina’s Ryan<br />

Wade (1993-94) as the league’s only two-time winners<br />

of the award ... Joining Danowski on the All-ACC<br />

squad were teammates Zack Greer, Casey Carroll<br />

and Nick O’Hara ... In addition, Blue Devil head coach<br />

John Danowski was named the conference’s Coach<br />

of the Year.<br />

COMPLETE RECOVERY<br />

Just four games into the 2006 season, defenseman<br />

Casey Carroll suffered a season-ending knee injury<br />

that required surgery ... Following complete recovery<br />

from surgery, the Baldwin, N.Y., native earned USILA<br />

First Team All-America, All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament<br />

honors in 2007 ... He ranked third on the team<br />

with 68 groundballs as the Blue Devils led the ACC in<br />

scoring defense.<br />

JOINING ELITE COMPANY<br />

With three helpers against Virginia on April 14, <strong>Duke</strong><br />

senior Matt Danowski became the fifth player in ACC<br />

history and the 34th player in NCAA history to register<br />

100 goals and 100 assists in a career ... Through 61<br />

career games at <strong>Duke</strong>, the Farmingdale, N.Y., native<br />

has amassed 129 goals and 127 assists.<br />

DUKE AT HOME<br />

<strong>Duke</strong> closed the 2007 season with an 11-1 ledger in<br />

the friendly confines of Koskinen Stadium with the lone<br />

loss coming in a 7-6 decision to top-ranked Cornell on<br />

March 20 ... The 11 wins set a new school singleseason<br />

record for home victories, surpassing the 10<br />

triumphs by the 2005 club.<br />

DANOWSKI IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT<br />

In the postseason, Matt Danowski totaled 24 points<br />

in four NCAA Tournament games to post the thirdhighest<br />

single-tournament total in NCAA history behind<br />

Eamon McEneaney (25 in 1977) and Tim<br />

Goldstein (25 in 1987), both of Cornell.<br />

ROAD SUCCESS<br />

The Blue Devils posted a perfect 4-0 record in road<br />

games during the season with victories over Maryland,<br />

North Carolina, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins<br />

... Dating back to the 2005 season, <strong>Duke</strong> has won<br />

eight of its past nine road contests.<br />

ACC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS<br />

After earning the top seed for the ACC Tournament,<br />

<strong>Duke</strong> captured the league championship with wins<br />

over fourth-seeded North Carolina and second-seeded<br />

Virginia ... Matt Danowski received Tournament MVP<br />

honors following a five-goal, five-assist weekend and<br />

was joined on the all-tournament team by fellow Blue<br />

Devils Zack Greer, Bo Carrington, Casey Carroll<br />

and Dan Loftus ... The ACC Tournament crown<br />

marked the fourth for <strong>Duke</strong> (1995, 2001, 2002 & 2007).<br />
