• Aimeliik (Identical Majuro’s older Power plant)
• Malakal
• Smaller power plants on outlying islands

• Kayangel
• Maximum Capacity ~17MW
Power Generation –
Fuel & Lube Consumption
• Total Fuel Consumption per year estimated at
200,000 gallons
• Lube oil consumption 30-40 gallons per engine
per day

Power Distribution
• 34.5kva transmission line between Aimeliik and
Malakal
• 13.8kva primary distribution line throughout
island
• Mostly overhead power poles

Power Rates
• Residential rate, $0.09 USD/kwH
• Commercial rate, $0.15 USD/kwH
• Rate increases with increasing use (500kwH,
1000kwH, etc…)
• Separate fuel charge for fluctuating fuel prices

Renewable Energy supplies
• No history of wind projects
• PV projects
• PV project in Kayangel, , now diesel power plant
• Scattered PV panels throughout Kayangel, , Northern
part of Babeldaob, , and the outer islands
Renewable Energy Challenges
• Low power rates from subsidy
• only 9 cents per kWh (difficult for renewables to
compete)
• High energy consumption per household
• Customers used to high energy consumption,
average 500kWhrs per month
