9. Separation
Energy efficiency, integrated recycling management
and environmental compatibility are current challenges
which have to be faced today by farms, particularly
those in the dairy industry. The separation of liquid and
solid materials in manure is of particular importance in
this respect.
The recycling of water is made possible by separation. A
water saving which does not simply have advantages
in terms of cost but also for the environment. The
extracted solids can in turn be re-used as compost and,
after a sufficiently long drying period, even as bedding.
Thanks to separation the amount which has to be
stored is also considerably reduced.
