My public and private works are about connections. Typically I use glass and stone as
metaphor. But, mostly I like to bring disparate parts together to make a whole. I like
collaborating with communities and I enjoy being the conduit to activate community
involvement through art and art related issues. Life is way too short not to be in touch
with our surroundings and our neighbors and creating an identity through public art
is one way to achieve this.
Light, color, shadow, water and the community are the tools I like to use
to make things interesting.
Public art can hold profound significance for a community. It can
come to symbolize what that community stands for and I like
helping people make that discovery.
From a physical viewpoint my work evokes a sense of something
positive. I use two diverse media in my sculptures that bring
together natural elements that in one sense seem to be the
perfect marriage of materials and in another sense elevate the
thought of balance: fragility and strength, old and new, flat and
reflective. I have learned the sparkling effect of my materials
universally draw a positive response from viewers.
