editions published by the MoMAunder the direction of Monroe Wheeler and designed and printed<br />

by Joseph Blumenthal at The Spiral Press. The Emerson type was set by hand, the illustrations<br />

separately printed from the artist’s original blocks. Antonio Frasconi (b. 1919 in BuenosAires)<br />

grew up in Montevideo. He moved to NewYork in 1945. By the 1950s he had become<br />

widely recognized as a leading graphic artist, especially in woodblock printing and book illustrations.<br />
