Minutes of May 2008 Meeting 3.1. • Correction - Walter Lachs apology to be added • Correction –date to be April in lieu of March for Item 3. • John Robinson moved minutes be accepted. Eddie Fong seconded the motion. The minutes were accepted. 3.2. Business Arising • No business arising. 4. Correspondence 4.1. No correspondence 5. Treasurers Report 5.1. Rebate cheque received from HQ 5.2. $10,000 seed money from Auswireless 2007 received. 5.3. Profit share from Auswireless not received yet. 5.4. Com Bank Cash Management Account forms to be signed Friday. 5.5. David Tien gave Nuala Ward statements for bank accounts 5.6. Nuala Ward expects to be able to issue updated status 3 June 2008. 6. Circuit Editor Report 6.1. Articles received from EMBS and LEOS chapters for July Circuit. 6.2. Eddie Fong would like all chapter/group chairs to submit content. 6.3. Nominations request deadline August 2008. 6.4. Membership article by Bruce Poon. 6.5. Walter has submitted article 6.6. David Burger suggested Kim Chin provide article(possibly requesting support for WIE petition) 7. Committee Reports 7.1. Fellow Search – Walter Lachs Chair

Membership Development – Bruce Poon Chair • Bruce Poon tabled Membership Report. • Slight increase in membership since last month • 259 Graduate Student Members • 161 Student Members • 2300 Active Members • Two further Senior Member enquiries(Eddie Fong and David Tien). Also Ali Hellani and Kim Chin to be added. Also Sam Reisenfeld should be considered for nomination by Section. 7.3. Professional Activities – David Burger Chair • Engineering week – Graeme Gwilliam asked EA re meetings but had no reply. • Draft of Events in July Circuit • 2008 Events Calendar is full and working on 2009 calendar • Moving Events to Google Calender. • There have been some problems with EA regarding acceptability of events • Tripartite agreement up for renewal at years end. Possibility of having to go it alone. 7.4. Educational Activities- Kim Chin Chair • Kim Chin going to Pittsburgh 16 June 2008 for Engineering Education Conference. • Prof Roger Hadgraft from the Australian Association for Environmental Education(AAEE) has suggested that he and Kim meet at Pittsburgh after the conference and discuss WIE and Women in AAEE. • Karu Esselle giving talk on Electronics Education, with EA, at Hornsby Girls High 7.5. Student Activities – Ali Hellany Chair • Criteria to be added to Ali Hellany’s proposal as per link at bottom of proposal. • Prizes to be shared only between student authors not supervisors. Students must be the primary authors. • Charles Sturt and Armidale(IT) Universities to be added to list. • Final Vote on proposal next meeting. • Names:- Max Simons for Undergraduates Jim Vasseleu for Post Graduates Include some background information for each of the above honoured. David Burger to provide some background information. 7.6. Awards and Recognition - Ramutis Zakarevicius • No Report. 7.7. Nominations – Bruce Poon Chair • Call for Nominations in July Circuit for 2009 committee. • All present indicated their interest in participating on 2009 committee. 7.8. Historian – David Burger Chair • Minor tweaks to history document. • Beta testing of HQ History Portal 7.9. Conference Coordinator • Cairns Convention Centre function this Friday • The Sydney Convention Centre has contacted David Tien and asked for assistance in designing a biding document for IEEE Conferences • David Tien looking at Conference Paper review process • David Tien arranged a meeting with a few people from Academic Alliance International(AAI) Rev: 1(Confirmed) 9 July 2008 Antony Zaglas(IEEE NSW Section Secretary) pp2 of 5
