GOLD Affinity Group – Alejandro Monroy Chair • Alejandro has not renewed his IEEE membership • Two GOLD events have already been held this year 8.2. Life Member Activities – John Robinson Chair • No events planed as yet. 8.3. Women In Engineering(WIE) – Kim Chin Chair • WIE petition needs to be lodged. 9. Chapter Reports 9.1. Antennas and Propagation/Microwave Theory and Techniques joint chapter - Ananda Sanagavarapu chair • No report 9.2. Communications and Signal Processing joint chapter - Dr Iain Collings Chair • John Robinson has signed petition(7 signatures) for Joint Communications, Signal Processing and Oceanic Engineering Society chapter • Graeme Gwilliam put the motion: “The NSW Section supports the joint chapter formation of the Oceanic Engineering Society and Communications and Signal Processing Society chapters in New South Wales.” Nuala Ward seconded the motion. The motion was carried unanimously. 9.3. Computer Chapter - Kate Carruthers Chair. • No report 9.4. Education Chapter – Mark Lee Chair • One event held and L31 form lodged. 9.5. Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society - Jeff Armitstead Chair • Jeff Armitstead supplied article for Circuit • Web site is up and running • In the process of organising meeting at ANSTO • EMBC 2013 conference bid. Melbourne bid is significantly ahead of NSW and they have NZ onboard. Consult with Carolyn re prospects and as to whether to back Melbourne as there are other strong bids(Korea) • Decision late 2008 or early 2009. 9.6. IEEE New South Wales Section 225 th Executive Committee Meeting Minutes Monday 2 nd June 2008 at 7:00pm Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE, North Sydney College, Library Seminar Room 2 Committee No nominations were received for the positions of Chairperson or secretary at the 2007 Annual General Meeting, therefore the committee remains unchanged: Chairman: Professor Graham Town Secretary: Mr Stephen Hanham Technical Meetings The NSW Chapter of LEOS/CAS/SSC has been fortunate to continue working with other active Chapters around Australia to bring more IEEE Distinguished Lecturers to Australia. Technical meetings to date in 2008 with Distinguished Lecturers were as follows: 28 th February Professor Masaya Notomi, NTT Basic Research Laboratories Controlling Light by Photonic Crystals 14th April Professor John O'Brien, University of Southern California Photonic Crystal Devices Additionally, the Chapter will be hosting another IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, Professor John Dudley from the Institute FEMTO CNRS, mid-June who will be speaking on optical supercontinuum generation. Details will be emailed to members when confirmed – please keep your membership profile and contact details up to date at http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/join/update_profile.html. Please feel free to contact me for details of future technical meetings we are planning. Proposals from members for technical meetings are always welcome. 9.7. Power ELectronics/Industry Applications Society/Industrial Electronics joint chapter - P Danny Soetanto Chair • No report 9.8. Power Engineering Society chapter- John Robinson Chair • John Robinson advised he is still trying to arrange a distinguished lecturer visit for late October. There are three possible names. 10. Meetings and Conferences 10.1. Auswireless 2007 – received cheque for seed money of $10,000. Awaiting funds reconciliation and payment of profit share. 10.2. Oceans Conference 2010- John Robinson advised that Brian Ferguson has returned signed petition for joint chapter formation. John Robinson is trying to contact Iain Colings re signing of petition.
