have spent<br />

extensive periods<br />

at the <strong>In</strong>stitute.<br />

Diverse Faculty Pr<strong>of</strong>iles: The <strong>In</strong>stitute recognizes the value<br />

<strong>of</strong> diversity in its faculty and has created mechanisms to tap<br />

and utilize talent in whatever form it may be available. For<br />

instance, the <strong>In</strong>stitute engages several eminent academics as<br />

Distinguished Honorary Pr<strong>of</strong>essors and Guest Pr<strong>of</strong>essors, who<br />

contribute to the <strong>In</strong>stitute with short-term engagements. It also<br />

recruits faculty without a PhD as Teaching Pr<strong>of</strong>essors or Research<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essors when appropriate. The <strong>In</strong>stitute has also successfully<br />

hired several senior academics superannuated from<br />

the IIT system and elsewhere to help with academic administration<br />

and mentoring <strong>of</strong> younger faculty.<br />

<strong>In</strong>ternational Faculty: Diversity in the faculty enriches an institute’s<br />

educational ambiance. IITGN has a pro-active agenda<br />

to bring visiting faculty from across the world to the <strong>In</strong>stitute.<br />

Academics from leading <strong>In</strong>stitutions in the United States, Germany,<br />

France, Switzerland, Portugal, and New Zealand have<br />

spent extensive time at the <strong>In</strong>stitute.<br />

INNOVATIONS IN<br />

STAFF DEVELOPMENT<br />

Staff Development Programme: <strong>In</strong> appreciation <strong>of</strong> the crucial<br />

role <strong>of</strong> supporting staff in pursuit <strong>of</strong> excellence, staff members<br />

are encouraged to continuously improve their knowledge and<br />

skills. The <strong>In</strong>stitute expects every member <strong>of</strong> the staff to spend<br />

at least 10 days in a year in trainings and workshops at <strong>In</strong>stitute<br />

expense.<br />

Excellence Awards for Staff: To encourage excellence among<br />

support staff, attractive annual financial awards have been<br />

instituted to recognize and reward excellence in performance.<br />
