CONTRA DANCE: Dudley Laufman will lead the dancing<br />
at a special Old Home Week edition of the Nelson Saturday<br />
Contra Dance on <strong>August</strong> 10th. He will be assisted<br />
musically by the Canterbury Country Dance Orchestra.<br />
Dancing begins at 8:00 PM. Beginners and singles are<br />
welcome and all dances are taught throughout the<br />
evening. Admission is only $2, thanks to the generosity<br />
of an anonymous benefactor. <strong>The</strong> dance takes place in<br />
the historic Town Hall in Nelson.<br />

FELLS PROGRAM: Hay Day Family Festival, 10am-3pm.<br />

Features a live performance at 1pm by <strong>The</strong> New London<br />
Barn Playhouse Junior Players. While here explore our<br />
varied nature trails, visit the fairy village, view the art<br />

house art exhibit, animals of <strong>The</strong> Fells. Hourly historic<br />
tours of the main house and a 1pm tour of the gardens<br />

WASHINGTON HISTORY: Washington Historical<br />
Society meeting with the NH Humanities Council <strong>August</strong><br />
12, NH’S One Room Rural Schools: the romance and the<br />
reality presented by Steve Taylor. Meeting will be held<br />
at Camp Morgan Lodge. 6:00 pm Pot Luck Supper;<br />
7:00 pm Business Meeting; 7:30 pm Presentation. Come<br />
even if you cannot attend pot luck supper or meeting.<br />
FELLS PROGRAM: Of Constellations & Perseids: Star<br />
Gazing And Meteors, 8-9:30pm (rain date, august 13)<br />
with our eyes to the arch of the night sky, we’ll explore<br />
constellations and watch for meteors during the height<br />
of the summer perseid meteor shower, which can produce<br />
up to 60 meteors per hour! Fred Sladen of the New<br />
London Outing Club will lead this field trip of star-gazing<br />
and shooting-stars during the halcyon evenings of summer.<br />

registration required. Meets at the fells welcome kiosk.<br />

HENNIKER CONCERT: HIGH RANGE <strong>–</strong> Ellen Carlson and<br />

WALK/MARCH-A-THON: <strong>The</strong> Hillsboro United Methodist<br />
Church will be holding a two mile Walk/March-A-<br />
Thon Friday, <strong>August</strong> 16th starting at 7:00 PM at Grimes<br />
Field in Hillsboro. In order to stay in theme with the<br />
living history event weekend, although not required, we<br />
invite anyone who wishes to participate to come dressed<br />
in colonial, civil war, or revoluntionary war attire. Proceeds<br />
raised through pledges will be used to support<br />

HELP WANTED<br />
TOWN OF NEW LONDON<br />
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT<br />
<strong>The</strong> Town of New London Public Works Department has<br />
an opening for a part-time Laborer/Transfer Station<br />
Attendant. <strong>The</strong> successful applicant will work in all<br />
divisions of the Public Works Department including<br />
Highway, Wastewater, Cemetery, Town buildings, and<br />
the Transfer Station. This position requires flexibility<br />
in scheduling and will include weekends. Minimum<br />
qualifications include: a valid driver’s license and the<br />
ability to lift up to 75 lbs.<br />
