Suspect flees

as being a black male wearing
a black hooded sweatshirt.
Police shut down
Wilmington Road briefly to
search for the suspect as he
fled on foot toward
Wilmington.
State Police and two of its
K9 units joined the search
shortly after the robbery.
Burlington's Fox Hill
Elementary School, located
near the bank, was reportedly
placed in lockdown while the
search was ongoing.

the officer who arrived first,
that the suspect, Domenic
Cinelli, 57, a career criminal
out on parole, was headed
toward a getaway car that
had been parked on Richard
Circle.
Maguire headed off the suspect,
who was also killed in
the exchange of gunfire.
"This man (CineUi) was
running through the neighborhood,"
said Mahoney.
"This very, very, terrible, terrible
person was putting citizens
in danger, and Jade did
what he did to stop him."
Speaking to his brethren
officers, public safety officials
and politicians on hand,
Mahoney thanked them for
their support though what is
one of the most trying tra-
vails in the city's history.
He urged Maguire to feel
comfort in the notion that he
is now with his late father,
former PoUce Chief Thomas
Maguire, and mother Esther
L. (McPartlin), and asked
him "to look over his right
shoulder" and see Woburn
Police "Sgt. Paul" Connolly, a
colleague who died last year.
DeCubellis recalled
Maguire's famous sense of
humor, which was evident
firom an early age.
"He was a unique person,
from when he was a little
boy," she said.
She said Maguire often
joked about not wanting to
retire because "the crimdnal
element would have an
unhealthy excitement."
DeCubellis relayed an anec-
dote about Maguire buying a
sports car w^en he was a
teenager and wanting to drive
it though it was unregistered,
and his father was the chief
of police.
"He was so excited about the
car and so excited about driving
it," said DeCubellis.
She said she was "overwhelmed"
by the out-pouring
of support from "a wonderful
city" in which Maguire grew
up and worked.
"We have the best in
Woburn; the best ever," she
said.
The service was officiated
by Pastor Marsha
Heydenrech, from the
Lutheran Church of the
Redeemer.

WOBURN - Woburn Mayor
Scott Galvin sent a letter on
Wednesday calling for Gov.
Deval Patrick to launch an
investigation into why the
Woburn man who killed
patrolman John Maguire was
paroled in 2009.
Career criminal Domenic S.
Cinelli, 57, was paroled
despite being sentenced to
three life terms and escaping
twice from prison between
1975 and 1986.
Patrick has ordered a
review of the decision to
parole CineUi in March 2009.
Cinelli is alleged to have
shot and killed Maguire when
Cinelli and an accomplice
tried to rob jewelry from
Kohl's department store in
East Woburn in December.
Cinelli was also killed,
reportedly as the result of
shots fired by Maguire. Two

Wakefield men, Scott
Hanwright and Kevin
Dingwell, were arrested
shortly after the shootout.
Hanwright, who was allegedly
Cinelli's lookout, was
charged with first degree
murdCT and armed robbery.
Dingwell, who allegedly
responded to a phone call
from Hanwright requesting a
ride, was charged with being
an accessory after the fact.
"The incident itself was
tragic, and evoked a strong
outpouring of community
support for officer Maguire,
his family, friends and fellow
members of the Woburn
Police Department," wrote
Galvin, in a letter to Patrick.
"However, recent information
about the derelict
responsible for patrolman
Maguire's death has outraged
the residents of the city of
Woburn," added the mayor.
"As you know ... Cinelli has
been a menace to society
since his 17th birthday, when
he was convicted and sentenced
to prison for assault
and battery with a dangerous
weapon. He has been incarcerated
for most of his adult
life," wrote Galvin.

"However, he was granted
parole by the Parole Board in
2009. As Mayor of the city of
Woburn, I must demand your
office lead an investigation of
the facts and circumstances
that would justify a career,
violent criminal to be
released into our community.
"After studying CineUi's 9-
page record, which is Uttered
with violent felonies, it is
inconceivable that the Parole
Board could possibly beUeve
he would not be a continued
threat to society.
"In closing, I must stress
that the Parole Board,
through its actions, has failed
to protect the good and lawabiding
residents of the city
of Woburn - and the result is
the untimely, violent, tragic,
and unnecessary murder of
patrolman Maguire, which is
forever a loss to his family,
friends and fellow officers at
the Woburn Police
Department. As you are
aware, protecting the community
is the Parole Board's
number one duty. In this
instance, the Parole Board
failed officer Maguire, his
family and this community,"
concluded Galvin.
D.A. claims no notice of
hearing
A spokesperson for the
Middlesex district attorney
said the office would have
objected to parole for a
career criminal who fatally
shot a Woburn pohce officer,
but they were never notified
of his parole hearing.
John Grossman, the state's
undersecretary of pubUc safety
and security, told a Boston
newspaper that two Parole
Board employees assigned to
notify prosecutors before
CineUi's parole hearing in
2008 failed to do so.
The reasons are unclear.
The district attorney's office
had strongly objected to
Cinelli's release at prior
parole hearings.
