TOWN CRIER - WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 2011 HOME NEWS HERE.COM Ann M. Hanson Formorly of Wilmington SEABROOK, NH - Ann M. Hanson, 85, of Seabrook, formerly of Wilmington, MA, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA with loving family by her side. She was bom August 30,1925 in Nova Scotia, Canada, a daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (Deveau) Doucette. Ann was a graduate of Medford, MA High School with the Qass of 1943 and resided in Wilmington for 48 years moving to Seabrook in 1983. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, doing puzzles and bowling. Family members include her son, Paul H. Hanson, Jr and his wife, Carlotta, of Holmes, NY, her daughter, Ann M. Alicandro and her husband Joseph of Danville, two grandchildren, Kirman and Luca, her brother, James Doucette of Wilimantic, CT, her sisters, Beatrice Yankowski of Brooksville, FL, Bemice Lynch of Ttewtebury, MA, her sister-in-law, Carol Hanson of Nokomis, FL, and Ann also leaves several close friends at Ocean Mist wiiere she lived. In addition to her parents and her late husband, Paul H. Hanson, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Agnes Skelton and Theresa Smeltzer A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date and will be announced. Private internment will be with her husband at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home- Crematory, Hampton. Utilizing software company K-12 Insight, the district will survey students in grades 6 through 12, parents, staff, and community members. Strategic plans focus on the next five years and are tied to district goals, creating a cohesive experience "The results will help us design a strategic plan from the ground up," said Benton. "The plan will be ready for inqjlementation by July 1." liie kindergarten and integrated preschool programs will be seeking accreditation this year through NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). The process, similar to the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and (Colleges) accreditation for the high school, is thorough and time consuming. Benton estimates that it will take 18 months from start to finish. The first step, a selfstudy, is due in the next few months followed by a visit from the organization in the Spring 2011. However, the selection pool last year was not ideal, and thus the hiring process will begin anew. The Assistant superintendent in Wilmington primarily manages curriculum, instruction, and professional development. One seat is also open for the Redevelopment Authority, though no one currently holds it. The Crier spoke to Selectman Mike McCoy about his candidacy. "I'm off and running," said McCoy, a 21-year veteran of the Board of Selectmen and lifelong resident. As a small business owner in town - McCoy owns Michael's Place Restaurant - he says he understands the challenges today's economy presents. Weekly notices of foreclosures in the Crier sadden him and help shape his pohcy decisions, such as no user fees for things Uke trash pick up, no pink sUps to town workers, and a commitment to keeping the tax rate at the lowest possible level for residents. "We have $6 miUion in free cash, up from $4 million. That says a lot about what ^e've done in the town," McCoy told the Crier "I beUeve the residents in this community get a lot of bang for their buck." -McCoy added that the curpent members of the Board of Selectmen work together "as a team, and at the end of the day we are completing the people's business. I hope people will consider giving me one of their two votes. I've always delivered and I've always performed." ' Quick told the Crier that the feasibility study for a new or remodeled Wilmington High School is part of the reason she is eager to serve a second term on the School Committee. :"I think it is a really exciting time to be a part of the ' 4S^WELL WATER ^9 CONNECTION^ INC. Water Well Design & Project Management School Committee. I feel very lucky to be a part of this group. I've gotten incredible insist into the workings of the school system. We aren't afraid to question things and we come to consensus on issues smoothly," said Quick, who has taken particular interest in how education will be delivered in the future, since the town must plan now for a building that will be in use for another fifty years. "We need that new high school and I am excited that my kids wUl have the opportunity to be there."
