103 <strong>THE</strong> SUNDAY SCHOOL From the few existing Sunday School records, it appears that attendance was very poor in 1920with less than one hundred people on roll, and with less than half that number in attendance on Sunday. In 1921, when Reverend Larkin came to Williamston, some progress was made in stimulating interest in the church school. He saw a need for the adults to become more involved and helped organize the Wesley Class for the older members. He also began the custom of observing Sunday School Day and organized a Bible class for all age groups. His notes tell of a Sunday School he helped organize on the Hamilton Road to help "meet the needs of the people in that area," but does not state exactly where it was located. Every minister who followed Reverend Larkin had the Sunday School as a priority for improvement, and all of them stated how difficult it was to promote interest in it. By the 1930's, there were still only about one hundred and twenty-five on roll with the attendance never reaching one hundred. In 1938,a Young Adult's Class was organized, and Reverend Maxwell said it had the potential of being the largest class in the church. Through the years 'since that time, ministers have come and gone, and the Sunday School roll has had periods of both growth and decline. Now in 1988, with support and stimulation given by Reverend Cook, the number on roll is 182 with an average attendance topping one hundred.
