This form is used to plan Bachelor of Social Work students’ placements for the upcoming academic year.<br />

It is the understanding of Renison that placements will be coordinated according to the information<br />

completed below and to the availability of an appropriate student.<br />

A BSW or MSW is required for all Field Instructors. The School of Social Work offers the BSW as full and<br />

part-time programs. Both require a minimum of 720 hours of practicum time. Exceptions will be made<br />

for part-time students who receive a positive evaluation following the Reduction for Field Hours process.<br />

This form is also available in the Practicum Manual and on the School of Social Work web site.<br />

Clinical counsellors utilize a variety of theoretical orientations with a view to facilitating and supporting<br />

change in 6 to 10 counselling sessions.<br />

Narrative Description of Proposed Placement Experience:<br />

It is anticipated that the BSW intern will spend at least 2/3 of their placement within the Intake<br />

Office where they will gain experience in the management of case files from first contact to first<br />

appointment. This work includes telephone contact with clients, referral to groups or for individual<br />

counselling, setting initial appointment for clients, and the creation of client files. It noted that the<br />

skills that will be gained in this aspect of the placement will be transferrable to work within a variety<br />

of social service agencies.<br />

It is anticipated that the remainder of the intern’s placement could include involvement with any of<br />

the treatment groups offered by this agency.<br />
