Rodney Mason ’56 retired from his job<br />

at the Los Alamos National Lab in 2005.<br />

1 st Lt. Stephen E. Karopczyc ’61 gave<br />

his life most heroically in Vietnam on<br />

March 12, 1967; he was posthumously<br />

awarded the Congressional Medal of<br />

Honor, a copy of which is on permanent<br />

display in the lobby of Darby<br />

Auditorium. In commemoration of Lt.<br />

Karopczyc’s heroic death, the Village<br />

of Bethpage unveiled and dedicated a<br />

beautiful monument (shown above) on<br />

June 15, 2013. His parents, Mr. and<br />

Mrs. Edward Karopczyz, as well as other<br />

family members were present for the<br />

ceremony, which included Bro. Thomas<br />

Cleary ’81 as one of the speakers.<br />

Chase Riley ’70 recently retired from his chiropractic<br />

practice in County Louth, Ireland, and has relocated to<br />

his wife’s home country of the Philippines. He and his<br />

family stopped on Long Island during their move and he<br />

Stephen McCarthy ’71 is an executive<br />

producer of “Insiders Peak,” a 90-minute<br />

documentary of the iconic NYC retail<br />

emporium, Bergdorf Goodman. This<br />

feature-length film, a celebration of the<br />

company’s 111 th anniversary, explores the<br />

history of the store, family, designers,<br />

windows and much more in a compelling<br />

and critically acclaimed program. Stephen<br />

is also taking a lead role in developing and<br />

funding the 2014 release of a similar film<br />

on Tiffany’s celebrating their 175 th<br />

anniversary.<br />

Bill Minutaglio ‘73 is a professor of journalism<br />

at The University of Texas at Austin and<br />

has been named one of the “Outstanding<br />

Teachers” in the state-wide university system.<br />

His eighth book, Dallas 1963, will be<br />

released this fall.<br />

Dave Maloof ’76, long recognized<br />

as a “super lawyer” in his<br />

field of international shipping<br />

law, has recently been travelling<br />

for another reason. He and<br />

his family have been developing<br />

recreational facilities for<br />

children at a refugee camp<br />

in Lebanon. As a result of<br />

his work, he has been consulted<br />

by both the State Department<br />

and the White House. Most<br />

recently, in honor of his<br />

work, Pax Christi Metro New<br />

York has created an annual<br />

Maloof Family Young<br />

Peacemakers Award competition<br />

for Catholic high school<br />

students in the New York<br />

metropolitan area.<br />

Bro. Michael McAward ’76 has served<br />

for the past seven years in Rome, Italy, as<br />

Secretary General of the Marianists. He<br />

was recently designated to serve for the<br />

coming five years as Head of Temporalities<br />

(i.e. finances) for the Society of Mary. As<br />

such he will be one of the four major<br />

superiors of the Marianists.<br />

Frank L. Kurre ’81 was recently elected to<br />

the Partnership Board of Grant Thornton,<br />

LLP, one of the six global accounting firms.<br />

Grant Thornton LLP’s Partnership Board is<br />

the governing body of the firm. The Partnership<br />

Board consists of ten members elected by<br />

the Firm’s partners for three-year terms and<br />

the Firm’s Chief Executive Officer. Frank, his<br />

wife Francesca and their four children reside<br />

in Manhasset Hills, New York.


Joseph Galante ’84 serves as assistant<br />

comptroller for strategic planning to NYS<br />

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, and<br />

resides in Mineola, NY.<br />

Michael Duke ’85 and his wife Laurie Ann<br />

adopted Guiliana Rose on April 14, 2013.<br />

Guliana was born on September 23, 2011 in<br />

Fujian Province, China, and was welcomed<br />

to the Duke family on April 23, 2013.<br />

Matthew Erickson ’88 recently had a novel<br />

published by the name of International<br />

Harvester. The book is an unusual and<br />

interesting approach to the current problem<br />

of the black marketing of human body parts<br />

for transplant. The publisher is Damnation<br />

Books, LLC of Santa Rosa, CA.<br />

Christopher Meyers ’92 was promoted to<br />

Lt. Col. in the US Marine Corps on June 3,<br />

2013. Chris is at the Pentagon in the<br />

Program Development Office.<br />

Fr. Peter M. Folan, S.J. ’96 was one of<br />

seven ordained as Jesuit priests on June 8,<br />

2013 in the Fordham University Church.<br />

On the following day, Fr. Peter celebrated<br />

his first Mass in his home parish of Our<br />

Lady of Lourdes Church in Massapequa<br />

Park, NY. He is pictured above left during<br />

the Mass of Ordination, and below<br />

celebrating his first Mass. Above right,<br />

Robert H. Wauters ’01 graduated from<br />

UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical <strong>School</strong> this<br />

May, and was promoted to Lt. in the United<br />

States Navy. He is now on full-time active<br />

duty in the Navy as a resident in Internal<br />

Medicine at Walter Reed National Military<br />

Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He and his<br />

wife, Erin, live in Silver Spring, MD.<br />

Michael D’Ambrosio ’02 and his brother<br />

Steven ’05 recently traveled with their family<br />

to Italy. On their last night in Rome, they met<br />

with Bro. Michael McAward ’76. Above (1.-<br />

Paul Delia ’03 graduated from the<br />

Rutgers Business <strong>School</strong> MBA program<br />

with a concentration in finance<br />

and global business. He was promoted<br />

to account manager at the The Ayco<br />

Company, L.P., a Goldman Sachs<br />

company.<br />

William Sullivan ’04 is one of this<br />

year’s Founder’s Medalists for the<br />

Vanderbilt University <strong>School</strong> of Medicine.<br />

He graduated with a doctor of medicine<br />

and a master of education. Billy is the first<br />

Vanderbilt student to pursue joint M.D.<br />

and M.Ed. degrees. He notes, “Being an<br />

academic physician is the perfect opportunity<br />

for me to engage both students and patients<br />

as learners. In seeking to develop rigorous expertise<br />

as an educator, the decision to pursue<br />

a master’s degree in education after my third<br />

year of medical school was a natural one.”<br />

He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha<br />

Medical Honor Society and as a Curriculum<br />

Committee co-chair, helped plan the new<br />

Vanderbilt University <strong>School</strong> of Medicine<br />

curriculum. Billy coordinated patient care<br />

and education at the student-run Shade Tree<br />

Clinic and served as a leader of a non-profit<br />

organization supporting secondary education<br />

in rural Kenya. He will continue his training<br />

in the combined Internal Medicine and<br />

Pediatrics Residency Program at Vanderbilt<br />

beginning in July.<br />

Kevin Lubrano ’05 graduated from the<br />

University of Arizona at Tuscon with a master’s<br />

in classical history. He will move on to<br />

the University of Michigan, where he received<br />

a fellowship to continue his Ph.D.<br />

Joseph Gambino ’06 graduated magna cum<br />

laude from Georgetown University Law<br />

Center. He also received the highly credited<br />

federal legislation committee award for the<br />

highest grade in the clinic. He will be taking<br />

his bar exam this summer.<br />

Patrick Gillespie ’08 is running for Town of<br />

Hempstead 4th District Councilman. He is<br />

pursuing his master’s degree in history at St.<br />

John’s University, and works for the Town of<br />

Hempstead Board of Elections.<br />

Gregory Lubrano ’08 graduated from Molloy<br />

College in 2012 as valedictorian of his<br />

class. He is working for his master’s degree<br />

at St. John’s University where he received a<br />

fellowship.<br />

John DiMino ’09 graduated from M.I.T. on<br />

June 7, 2013 with a major in mechanical and<br />

ocean engineering and a minor in business<br />

management. He will be working for Lockheed<br />

Martin in West Palm Beach, FL.<br />

Anthony Truzzolino ’09 graduated from<br />

the University of Richmond on May 12,<br />

2013. He has started a new position with<br />

a company in Virginia.<br />

Daniel Minervini ’11 has been selected as<br />

the 2013 ATOS Theatre Organ Student of<br />

the Year. He has been a student of Jelani<br />

Eddington since 2009. He participated<br />

in the 2009 ATOS Young Theatre Organist<br />

Competition and is a frequent attendee<br />

at the ATOS Summer Youth Adventure.<br />

As an active member of the New York<br />

Theatre Organ Society, he regularly helps<br />

the work crew restore the 426 Wurlitzer<br />

at Long Island University. He is currently<br />

serving as an elected member of the<br />

NYTOS board of directors.<br />
