ALL MY TUMBLER GIRLS – Or All About Women Who Dare To …
by Lothar Lambert PORTRAIT | BERLIN |WOMEN | SOCIAL |
In his new film, Lothar Lambert has chosen to portray eleven
women over forty in Berlin, interweaving accounts of their experiences,
their current lives and their expectations for the future.
The line-up includes a number of well-known Berliners such
as Irene Schweitzer, who runs the shop “Kaufhaus Schrill” in
Bleibtreustrasse, photographer Erika Rabau and painter Evelyn
Sommerhoff.
The women talk about their chaotic family backgrounds, dramatic
twists and turns, courageous decisions, failed relationships, breakdowns and new beginnings,
as well as the art of gritting your teeth in spite of all of life’s blows. In no uncertain terms the women
tell the filmmaker how they came to be the people they are; they also chat unabashedly about their
sexual antics and reflect en passant on the social climate in Germany. Although only one or two of the
protagonists are known to each other, they all share their acquaintance with Lothar Lambert, whom
they know either socially or from having worked with him. They also have something else in common:
they’ve all been through a hell of a lot – and they’re all ballsy.
ANDREAS DRESEN
out of the series MY LIFE / MA VIE
by Cordula Kablitz-Post PORTRAIT | FILM | ARTS | MUSIC
With his unique documentary style, multiple award-winning director Andreas Dresen is considered
an anomaly among contemporary film directors. Through interviews with Dresen and some of his
important collaborators such as Axel Prahl, Inka Friedrich and Thorsten Merten, this portrait traces the
course of the director's career. Dresen delves into the archives of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, and
discovers previously unseen photos from productions of his father Adolf Dresen from the 1960s and
70s. As a child, Dresen often observed his father at work in the theatre. Scenes of Andreas Dresen
directing and editing his most recent film "Whisky and Vodka" and directing "Kasimir and Karoline" on
stage illuminate why he, like his father before him, is a director who drives his actors to top performances.
But music is Dresen's secret passion. As the singer and guitarist at a tribute concert for the
late singer/songwriter Gundermann in Berlin, he reveals his youthful dream: if things hadn't worked
out in film, he would have loved to have become a musician.
A night in Buenos Aires. Young people between sunset and sunrise, in search
of trash, love, justice, a future. Four life lines that will cross but won't touch
each other.
Nico sprays, under the cover of darkness, political graffiti against his anger
at the corrupt government. His trademark is the spider, climbing over house
walls and thus into Estér's nightlife. Together with her mother and her little
son, she uses the hours before garbage removal trying to turn other people's
waste into their living. Natalia is coming home from her webcam-strippingjob.
She is dreaming of a man who loves her and of finally becoming the
woman on the outside that she feels she already is. But right now she wants
to go out, dance in a club and forget all about everything. The AMERIKA
is also the place Ani, Hilde and Mechi are heading for. Drunk with cocktails,
styling and the thought of boys, the three girlfriends take off into the night. Avenida Argentina
explores four opposite worlds along the social striplines of today's Argentina, between poor and rich,
unschooled and studied, indigenous and European descent. An irritating snapshot of a society in crisis.
