INTRODUCTION
The Grimsthorpe Township Property was staked to cover a syenite
intrusion in the southeast corner of the township. One area on
the property has joints spaced -far enough apart to allow -for
the removal o-f
large? blocks.
The -following report describes the geology of the property
and gives conclusions and recommendations.
GRID
An east-west baseline was established starting at the west
claim line and 100 meters north of the centre claim post.
Compassed north-south lines were run every 100 meters with
flagged stations every 25 meters along the line. A total of
8.5 kilometers of lines and baseline were established.
REGIONAL GEOLOGY
The Grimsthorpe area is located in an area of high intrusive
activity. The oldest rocks of the region are mafic volcanic flows
and tuffs, minor felsic volcanics, and related sediments. This
suite of rocks have been intruded by large masses of granite,
syenite and diorite, and smaller dikes and sills of aplite,
quarts and feldspar porphyrys, syenite, granite and pegmatites.
The intrusives are in turn variable in composition with
gneissic phases along the margins. In central Grimsthorpe
Township a quarts diorite forms a phase between the syenite
and the mafic volcanics. This intrusive also has granite,
granodiorite, diorite, quarn gabbro and gabbro as minor
outcroppings.
The township has had minor production for gold in the past.
Occurrences of gold, silver, copper, nickel, arsenic, iron,
quarts, and talc have been found in the immediate area of the
township.
RECEIVED"
OCT 2 3 1992

(4)
PROPERTY GEOLOGY
The property consists of three lots (19, 20 and 21), Concession
l
of which only lots 20 and 21 were mapped.
Approximately 607. of the mapped area is underlain by syenite and
the rest by mafic volcanics. A marginal zone of very mafic syenite
occurs along the contact between the syenite and the volcanics.
Mafic Volcanics
The mafic volcanics are located along the east side of the
intrusive. They are composed of both massive and fragmental
flows, and tuffs. The massive and fragmental flows are dark
grey to black, medium grained and are thinly weather to a light
grey-brown colour. Fragments are not easily distinquished being
the same composition as the surrounding mass. The tuffs tend to
be softer than the flows and weather deeper and a darker brown
colour. They also exhibit a slightly distinquishable bedding.
This bedding appears to be generally flat to low dip angles.
Pyrite is ubiquitous to the volcanics as fine specks to 1-2 mm
cubes. Chalcopyrite was noted in several locations as small
specks and masses. Generally the total sulfide content would
average less than 0.25"/. of the rock. Three sulfide float samples
were found on the property that contains from 207. to 357. pyrite
mostly as a mosaic: and sometimes as small 1-2 mm. cubes set in
a siliceous light grey matrix. These samples were combined to
RECEIVED
(5)
make a composite sample which assayed 79 ppb Au, 7 ppm Ag, and
167 ppm Cu. The source of the -float was not located.
SYENITE
The syenite -forms a oval shaped body o-f approximately 5.5 x 6.5
kilometers with about 807. occur ing in Grimsthorpe Township. The
remainder o-f
the property lies within this mass.
The syenite is homogenous, coarse grained and pinkish to light
brown. The rock is composed mainly o-f
orthoclase with minor
amounts o-f
hornblende and biotite. Mafic syenite exists along
the eastern contact with the metavolcanics and forms a zone
usually in the 10's of feet. The rock is mainly coarse grained
and consists o-f
dark grey feldspars set in a finer grained
pinkish feldspar matrix.
Another type of mafic syenite exists near the contact and also
as flattish sills intruding the metavolcanics. This rock is
coarse grained, dark grey to black with 25 7.
i
b lack biotite and
may better be termed as a lamprophyre. Outcrops with metavolcanics
above and below a sill of this rock were mapped in several
o o
locations. Here the sills dip from 10 to 40 back toward the
main syenite mass. Several sills exist and are usually less than
10' thick.
Granite dikes were observed in 2 locations. At L '0',100N a
"RECEIVED
OCT 2 3 1992

single outcrop was -found but no contacts were observed. On
(6)
the baseline at 725E an 8" dike was found striking at 272 degrees.
JOINTING
Most outcrops on the property are so well jointed in various
directions as to preclude the removal of large blocks. Joints and
joint sets normally are not more than a few square feet apart.
However an area of nearly massive syenite exists centered
around L4E from 300B to 500S and from 350E to 450E. This location
has areas of several hundred square feet of joint free outcrops.
Combined with the high topography this location should easily
yield large blocks.
OCT 2 3 1992

(7)
CONCLUSION
Mapping o-f the property has shown that the eastern part o f t he
property is underlain by mafic metavolcanics and tu-ffs. These
have in turn been intruded by a syenite complex with cna-fic to
lamprophyric: phases along the eastern metavolcanic contact.
Mapping of the main syenite body has outlined an area that would
appear to have the potential to support a sizable quarrying
operation for the removal of large blocks. This area is located
in the south half of Lot 21, Concession l
from 300B to 500S.
centered around L4E,
All other outcrop locations within the syenite are too highly
jointed to permit the removal of large blocks.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The next step in the development of this property will be to
remove a few large blocks from the high potential area. A small
bridge will have to be built to cross the West Black River
near the east side of the property were it is shallow and rocky.
A road will have to be built back to the potential quarry site,
a distance of about one kilometer.
