Nae Streets in Drumchapel - Glasgow Life

We lived in Drumchapel from 1960 until 1982 when we managed to buy
our own place. Firstly we stayed in 9 Airgold Drive, then at the bottom
of Inchfad Drive and finally in Cally Ave across from St Pius
Secondary School.
Julie-Anne went to St Pius Primary and remembers that the janitor's
wife used to make cakes on Fridays and she'd hand them out as they
left school. She also remembers the bakery that was next to the fruit
and veg shop on the corner in the shopping centre - we can't
remember the name of it.
The City Bakeries was along at the other end next to the bank. There
was also a hairdresser that used to be around the corner and up the
stairs. She also remembers her Granda taking her to play on the
rocket in the park at Hecla Ave end. She remembers playing Kirby and
3 sticks in the street; she loved the Chinese restaurant at the shops
and her Granda taking her to the chippy whilst waiting on her Gran
coming out of the bingo.
Used to love going over to the estate (it used to be the Garscadden
estate) - we rolled our eggs at Easter, we sledged in winter and played
there all times in between. As it was at the end of the street it was
the nearest open space to play on. There also used to be a frog pond
roughly where the old folk's home is at corner of Kinfauns Drive and
Garscadden Rd - It was a sad day when they began digging it all up to
build the high flats though we did have lots of fun playing in the lifts
and trying to avoid the caretaker!
The Garscadden burn turned into a swamp around that point too - at
least that's what we called it when we were children. There was an old
ruin at the top of the hill at Linkwood Ave and it apparently was a
crypt for the owners of the estate but I'm sure there was a grave
