Games - 1980 I liked elastics – stretched elastic bands to jump over and climb under. Three Sticks-jumped between sticks and move them further and further apart. I was rubbish at it because I’m so small. Kirby- Football bounced between kerbs either side of the street. My big cousin had puggy machines in his bedroom, we used to take all the tokens out of the money boxes at the back and spend hours playing games! These days I play board games with my children Alexander & Erin that I played when I was wee. We still play Monopoly, Jenga, Kerplunk and Connect 4. We all played in the street-and we would chalk on the street and closes so we could play hopscotch. 22
The Whitie Coming home from school mum would say, "homework done, change your clothes and out you go". So off we went to the Whitie, our wee club, was the best wee club in the Drum. In the big hall we had table tennis, snooker and the toilets lol. Oh the fun playing dark tig in the toilets hiding in the cubicles and under sinks. In the small hall we had arts and crafts table and a Sega Mega Drive. At Christmas my mum and Paddy would dress up as Santa and hand out presents to all the kids at the disco. During the school holidays we would have day trips. We'd go to the Magnum Centre, Irvine, for ice skating or swimming. Sunny days we would be off for a BBQ to Balmaha travelling by bus or train. We'd all sing our hearts out all the way there and all the way back. 23
