2008-09 ROADRUNNER WRESTLING DUAL MEET RESULTS
CSUB 26, COLUMBIA 15
STANFORD, Calif. — CSUB concluded action
at the Stanford Duals with a convincing
26-15 win over Columbia. The win was the
Roadrunners’ sixth consecutive dual victory
and moved their season record to 7-3.
The ‘Runners won six of 10 matches, beginning
with Thomas Kimbrell’s 13-8 decision
over Andrew Grabfelder at 133. Elijah Nacita
followed with a 14-1 major decision over
Shane Strumwasser at 141 and Calvin Miller
recorded his second pin of the day, this time
over Nick Standish.
The Lions’ Derek Sickles picked up a 9-6 decision
over Trevor Hall at 157, but CSUB put
the dual away with a Joey Granata decision at
165, a forfeit win at 174 and a Riley Orozco
major decision at 184.
Columbia would go on to win the final two
bouts, a fall victory by Ryan Sutherland at
197 and an 8-3 decision by Ryan Flores at
heavyweight.

No. 10 BOISE STATE 26, CSUB 12
BOISE, Idaho — Leading 12-8 midway
through the dual against No. 10 nationally
ranked Boise State, CSUB suffered losses in
the final five bouts of the evening, falling
26-12 to the Broncos at Taco Bell Arena.
The Roadrunners entered the Pac-10 match-up
riding a six-dual win streak, but fell to 7-4 on
the season and 4-1 in conference action.
A meet that featured nine total top-25 ranked
wrestlers opened with No. 5 Brent Chriswell
and No. 8 Brandon Halsey at 197. Chriswell
led 4-2 after the opening period, scoring a
pair of takedowns, while Halsey earned two
escapes. Halsey chose down to start the second
period, and cut his deficit to one with
a quick escape, but he was unable to score
again and Chriswell added an escape in the
third for a 5-3 win.
Bakersfield’s No. 9 ranked Mitch Monteiro
put his team ahead 5-3 with a dominating
18-1 technical fall victory over Sam Zylstra
at heavyweight. No. 15 Brandon Zoetewey
increased the Roadrunner lead to 8-3 with
a tight 2-0 win over Boise’s Alan Bartelli at
125.
At 133, CSUB’s Thomas Kimbrell scored a
quick takedown five seconds into the match,
but those would be the only points the senior
would manage as No. 4 Andrew Hochstrasser
reeled off 17 consecutive points for the technical
fall win.
Elijah Nacita pushed the CSUB lead to 12-8
with an 8-0 major decision over Cory Fish at
141, but it was all Boise State from there as
the home team claimed wins in the final five
matches.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — CSUB dominated start
to finish in a 34-7 pounding of Pac-10 rival
UC Davis.
Trevor Hall started the night off with an 18-6
major decision over the Aggies’ Joey Wilson
at 157. Wilson scored a takedown early to go
up 2-0, but Hall responded with two escapes,
a takedown and a pair of two-point nearfalls
in the first period to hold an 8-4 advantage.
Hall stretched his lead to 12-6 after two
periods, then scored a takedown, three-point
nearfall and riding time in the third.
Davis’ Dustin Noack cut the CSUB lead to
4-3 with a 9-6 decision over Joey Granata at
165, but Jason Points stretched the ‘Runner
lead back to four with a 10-5 decision over
Tyler Bernacchi at 174. Bernacchi entered the
match ranked No. 1 in the latest Pac-10 poll,
while Points was listed at No. 3.
At 184, CSUB’s Riley Orozco improved to 4-1
since moving down a weight class, claiming
a 9-2 decision over John Clark. Orozco took a
4-1 lead in the first period on a pair of takedowns,
and only allowed Clark one more point
in the final four minutes of action.
Brandon Halsey, currently ranked No. 7 in
the USA Today/Intermat/NWCA poll, pushed
the ‘Runner lead to 16-3 with a forfeit victory
at 197. No. 8 ranked Mitch Monteiro followed
with a 10-2 major decision over John
Thurston at heavyweight and No. 15 ranked
Brandon Zoetewey earned a 16-0 technical fall
over Chris Armendariz.
Thomas Kimbrell won by forfeit at 133,
extending the Roadrunner cushion to 31-3
and Elijah Nacita claimed a 10-4 decision over
Nexi Delgado at 141.
The Aggies were able to close out the night
with a win at 149 as Barrett Abel earned an
11-0 major decision over CSUB’s Calvin Miller.
