<strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Logistic</strong> <strong>Label</strong><br />

The SSCC is 18-digit numeric number.<br />

The uniqueness of the data structure is ensured through the use of the <strong>GS1</strong> Company Prefix,<br />

which is supplied by the <strong>GS1</strong> Member Organisation to a company and the rules for allocating<br />

an SSCC. The SSCC acts as globally unique identifier or “license plate” and provides access to<br />

information stored in computer files, which are transferred through the EDI.<br />

The format of SSCC is presented below:<br />

SSCC structure includes the following:<br />

Extension Digit. The Extension digit is used to increase the capacity of the SSCC. It has<br />

the value 0 to 9 and has no meaning. It is allocated by the company.<br />

<strong>GS1</strong> Company Prefix. – is unique for each separate company. It consists of the <strong>GS1</strong><br />

Local Member Organisation (MO) Prefix and Company Number, which is assigned to<br />

each system user, company, by the <strong>GS1</strong> MO.<br />

Serial Reference unique number, allocated by a company to identify its shipments. The<br />

structure and content of the Serial Reference is at the discretion of the system user,<br />

company, responsible for its assignment.<br />

The Check Digit is a number used to verify that the full identification number, SSCC in<br />

the case, is correctly composed. It is calculated based upon the preceding 17-digits.<br />

The usage of SSCC in the supplier section is sufficient to guarantee the good progress of all<br />

operations in the transport.<br />

The SSCC is a unique worldwide number for logistic unit. Complete numeric structure of<br />

the Serial Shipment Container Code (SSCC) improves security and reliability of data.<br />
