Criteria for Earn<strong>in</strong>g Leaves<br />
Green Leaf Represents ten (10) contact hours or one (1) CEU (cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g education unit). One CEU is<br />
equal to ten contact hours. The contact hours may be completed at one workshop,<br />

course, or adult development event or cumulative hours <strong>of</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. Five silver leaves are<br />
replaced by one gold leaf.<br />
Represents 250 contact hours or 25 CEU’s.<br />
O<strong>the</strong>r Criteria for Earn<strong>in</strong>g Leaves<br />
• Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>gs applied to earn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>P<strong>in</strong></strong> may not be applied to <strong>the</strong> earn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>of</strong> leaves.<br />
• Candidates apply<strong>in</strong>g for leaves need to document <strong>the</strong>ir hours and describe how <strong>the</strong><br />
workshop/course has improved <strong>the</strong>ir work with girls. To clarify which hours <strong>of</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g count<br />
towards leaves, focus on how much <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g applies to improv<strong>in</strong>g work with girls. For<br />
example, for a course on us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternet, perhaps 3 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 8 course hours would be applicable<br />
to help<strong>in</strong>g girls access and <strong>in</strong>teract with <strong>GSUSA</strong>’s website.<br />
• Only tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g hours earned <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> five (5) years prior to <strong>the</strong> application will be accepted towards<br />
earn<strong>in</strong>g leaves.<br />
• Each course, workshop, or tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g event submitted must be at least 30 m<strong>in</strong>utes <strong>in</strong> length.<br />
• Time must be submitted <strong>in</strong> ten (10) hour blocks. Please do not submit for partial leaves.<br />
• Note that leaves are progressive. The <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>P<strong>in</strong></strong> holds five leaves. When an<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividual has earned five green leaves, <strong>the</strong>y can beg<strong>in</strong> to remove <strong>the</strong> green leaves as each silver<br />
leaf is earned and <strong>the</strong>n remove <strong>the</strong> silver leaves as each gold leaf is earned. Leaves that are<br />
removed become ‘keepsakes.’<br />
Examples <strong>of</strong> Figur<strong>in</strong>g Leaves and Hours<br />
10 hours = 1 green leaf<br />
93 hours = 4 green leaves + 1 silver leaf<br />
100 hours = 2 silver leaves (take <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> 4 green leaves)<br />
315 hours = 1 green leaf (10 hours) + 1 silver leaf (50 hours) + 1 gold leaf (250)<br />
