time.Inbigandsmallways,theymakea<br />

differenceandshowwhyretirementhousing<br />

isapositivechoiceforolderpeople.<br />

Withsomuchlocalresourcefulness,andover600<br />

estates,it’snotalwayseasytokeepintouchwith<br />

allthispositivework.Wecanalsomiss<br />

alsowanttobepartoftheirwidercommunity.Andwhilemanyresidentsvalue<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong>’shousingmanagementexpertise,theyalsovaluethechoicethat<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong>offersthemlocallyandindividually.I’mconvincedthatempowering<br />

residentsandestatestoexercisechoiceoverthethingsthatmattertothem<br />

makessense.We’realreadysavingresidentsmoneybygivingthemmoreoptions<br />

overlocalrepairs,forexample.<br />

Manyoftheinitiativesinherearesimpleandlowcost–whichhelpswhenfunding<br />

likeSupportingPeopleisfacingcuts.We’veestablishedanewCommunityLinks<br />

Managerposttohelpmoreofourestatesmakethemostoftheseandothervalue<br />

formoneyopportunities.We’vealsoenlistedResidents’Council’shelptoidentify<br />

‘star’casestudieswhichcanberepeatedbyotherestates.<br />

treasuredoutdoorspacewhereresidentscan<br />

picnicoutdoors,relaxandhostgardenparties.<br />

Thisyear,withValerie’shelp,theestatehosteda<br />

ticketedhogroastpartyfor170guestsincluding<br />

families,friendsandlocalcontractors.Valerie<br />

says:“Thelocalestateagent,AndrewHunt,whom<br />

weoftendealwith,providedfreechampagne<br />

andpaidforaliveband–thatwasanicetouch”.<br />

gardenat<strong>Hanover</strong>Court;transforming<br />

unkemptareas,intolowmaintenance,beautiful<br />

spacesthatallresidentscanenjoy.<br />

AtLavenderCourt,‘Kickstart’workedwith<br />

residentstotakephotographsoflocalscenery,<br />

whichwerethenusedtobrightenupthe<br />

communalareas.Theyalsobuiltalarge,brick<br />

barbecueforresidentsatPollardGardens–it<br />

wassuchasuccessthattheteamhavesince<br />

beeninvitedbacktotryitout!<br />

overallwinnerbutbothteamswere<br />
