YEAR IN REVIEW OCTOBER ’03 NOVEMBER ’03 A beautiful new Auxiliary Store, long under wraps as it was renovated, emerged and was dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The IOL’s annual Burlingame Award, increasingly recognized as one of the most prestigious awards in psychiatry, was presented this year to Dilip V. Jeste, MD, second from right, professor of psychiatry and neurosciences, and chief of the geriatric psychiatry division at the University of California, San Diego. JANUARY ’04 FEBRUARY ’04 MARCH ’04 In January, the hospital received news that we had won prestigious “Magnet” status, one of fewer than 100 hospitals in the country to achieve such an honor. Magnet awards are given to those hospitals that demonstrate and thoroughly document a high level of nursing achievement in an atmosphere that values and encourages best practices in nursing. The hospital launched a major advertising campaign to introduce its newest technology, “daVinci” robotic surgery for prostate cancer. Left to right: Drs.
