Research Interests
Main research interests focus on : a) Evaluation of fish biological performances for possible specific diversification, performant domestication and
cost effective production; b) biological control of marine finfish segments that are limiting factors of production; c) development of sustainable,
ergonomic, friendly environmental and high quality systems of mariculture.
These are based on :
A special knowledge in Biology of early fish stages (eggs, prelarvae, larvae, fry, juveniles), as well as in telolecith fish larviculture and in all
hatcheries techniques (from extensive to hyperintensive), mainly the low-input mesocosm ones.
A special know-how in methods / techniques used in hatcheries for mastery of fish larvae quality (morphology, osteology, growth potentialities)
without jeopardizing cost-effective productivity, nor need for further manual sorting of abnormal animals.
A special experience in associated hatchery methods / techniques used for increasing quality and productivity: a) depuration / recirculation in
closed systems, mainly that using adsorptive bubble separation techniques; b) intensive food chain management, mainly that related to mass
production of microalgae in photobioreactors and exploitation of wild zooplancton in lagoons; c) quality management of fish larval environment,
mainly that using green and pseudo green methods. d) mastery of weaning and nurcery mainly that using prescribed co- feeding and self-feeding
techniques with inert or compound diets
