Highlights from 2011
Waterborne coating system gains interest in the market
The EcoBoxcoat full waterborne container coating system is making waves
in the container industry with the largest order to date being placed in 2011.
The order involved a total of 280,000 kilograms of the environmentally
friendly coating being applied to almost 2,000 40-foot HC dry
cargo containers.
Offering line speeds equivalent to the application of solventborne systems,
zinc-based anticorrosion protection, and low volatile organic compound levels,
EcoBoxcoat has been proven to perform on a par with, or better than,
similar-aged solventborne container productions.
Another example of our One Hempel – One Ambition strategy in action, the
order was secured through a multi-team effort involving people from different
regions and departments. We anticipate that the EcoBoxcoat system will
continue to attract significant market interest in 2012 and beyond.
Helping homeowners save energy and stay cool
Launched in 2011 in the Middle East, Contex Thermoguard is an innovative
insulation coating that saves building and homeowners money and energy,
while improving comfort.
Contex Thermoguard’s insulating hollow vacuum microspheres form a tight,
interlocking matrix that reduces radiated, conductive and convective heat
through the painted surface. The high reflectivity of the coating also deflects
nearly all of the sun’s rays, which drastically reduces the cost and energy
required for cooling a home or a building.
Applied to exterior walls, Context Thermoguard reduces passive solar heating
by lowering the indoor temperature by as much as five degrees Celsius,
which reduces electricity consumption and helps regulate the indoor climate.
