on sale day. All two-year-old bulls were poured with Dectomax,
semen tested and scrotal and pelvic measured.
All heifers were Bangs vaccinated. No heifers have been
exposed to a bull and all are ready to go to any state.

Dear cow-calf producers,
We are really looking forward to showing you our sale cattle this year. We’re lucky. All of us in the Beef
Industry and in particular the Hereford breed have the foundation set for years to come. Our proven
bulls remain major league hitters, our newer sires are surpassing what we’d hoped for when we waded
in and bought them, and our most recent bull purchases are simply tremendous.
We added 3 new sires in 2010, and the Class of 2010 was certainly gifted. 955W generated huge interest
at his initial sale from Coopers and then again on the show circuit and in Denver’s sale where
additional semen packages were sold totaling $69,000. 723U didn’t have that kind of fanfare but he’s
already got a following. Everyone who has seen him here at the ranch loves him. And we love the
calves out of both of these super sires as well as those from 102W, our pick from Darryl Anderson’s.
Our proven sires just keep improving. Their EPD’s and performance are terrific. Their calves have the
look that we demand – the look that says they’re top quality, ready to breed, and will work successfully
to contribute solid profits to the cow herd. 157K, 521T, 0041, and 29P have powerful, top-drawer progeny
that will work in your business. They are backed by cow herds with standout females where great
attention was paid to udders, milk, pigment, and mothering ability.
The balance of our sires includes an AI sire (3027), two of our home-raised sires, another Canadianraised
sire, and two polled sires. Whatever you are looking for to improve your herd – we have several
answers among our more than a dozen sires represented in our Feb. 2nd sale offering.
We again have information to assist you in making your decisions. The heifers now have a $Profit
Index and the bulls have Rib Eye Area measurements. The past few years we gathered a list of our
recommendations for 1st Service Sires which you will find on the opposite page. We are using a 4
star through 1 star Carcass Rating system
and have had very positive responses to
these tools. Sale day we’ll have a hand-out
including the yearling bull’s carcass scan
data and sale weights on all of the cattle.

We’re using a new figure this year for our sale
heifers: a $Profit Index. It’s obtained by adding the
four $Profit Dollar Values from each animal: Baldy Maternal,
Calving Ease, Brahman Influence, and CHB.
Each of these $Profit Indexes emphasizes: calving
ease, weaning weight, yearling weight, scrotal, and a
3-fold emphasis on both Rib Eye Area and Intra Muscular
Fat or marbling.

The average total $Profit value of the 61 heifers in
our sale is nearly the same value as our 38 retained

We bought 157K from Kallal’s in the 2002
Calgary Bull Sale. We gained the Doenz’s
as partners on what would become a breed
leading sire both north and south of the border.
157K is an industry 12-trait leader. He
ranks in the top of the breed for these traits:
Calving Ease Direct, Milk, Milk & Growth,
Calving Ease Maternal, Scrotal Circumference,
Fat, Rib Eye Area, Marbling, and all
four $Profit Indexes - Baldy Maternal, Calving
Ease, Brahman Influence, and Certified
Hereford Beef. These are all on paper. In the
real world of the pasture, 157K is a breeding
bull. His daughters are super feminine
and terrific on milk, udder conformation,
and moderate in size. He gives his calves
red pigment and outstanding quiet dispositions.
Carcass scans are noticed by breeders
throughout the U.S. He stamps his progeny
with thickness, solid markings, and eye
