FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR:
Last Saturday, November 9 th , over fifty (50) parishioners
participated in a Fall Cleanup day of the parish property at St.
Philomena Church. Through their generosity and hard work much
of the courtyard property was cleaned. It looks great. I realize that
there is another cleanup day taking place this weekend, but, I am
compelled to thank those who started the work (including the
scouts and their parents). Thank you so very much. This parish is
blessed with two beautiful churches and it is important that they be
cared for along with the grounds on which they have been built.
Thank you very much.
You are invited next Friday evening for an interesting
evening in St. Ann Church. The second year students from St.
Mary Seminary will be doing a “mock”: Easter Vigil Service as
part of a class project. This project is to fulfill requirements for a
course facilitated by Fr. Michael Woost. You are being invited to
be part of the congregation and to respond to the demonstration. I
invite you to come Friday, November 22, 2013 at 7 pm. If you
come you will see something you have never seen before in our
church. Do join us!
We have been announcing the Thanksgiving Day Mass in
the bulletin the last two weeks. Just a reminder that the Mass is at
9 am at St. Philomena Church. As has been our custom a drive
for donated canned goods and nonperishable item is taking place
Thanksgiving Day. With the cut in the food stamp program there is
a greater need to provide for those seeking assistance. I encourage
you to assist those in need. All donations received from now until
Christmas will be donated to both the Ozanam Center and the
Cleveland Heights Food Pantry. If you will not be with us
Thanksgiving Day please bring donations to church and place
either in the Joachim Room (St. Ann) or in the entrance of St.
Philomena Church.
Please keep in prayer the people of the Philippines. As
you are aware, that country has been devastated by terrific
typhoons. There have been many deaths and sections of that
country have been destroyed. The Catholic Relief Services are
assisting in relief efforts. If you wish to donate, please make
contributions to the Catholic Relief Services. Put on the memo line
“Philippine Relief” and either put in collection or send to the parish
office. It will be forwarded to CRS.
Readers are asked to stop in the sacristy and obtain their
Lector Workbook for the upcoming Liturgical Season. You are
asked to sign the form indicating that you received your book.
Eucharistic Ministers are need for the Thanksgiving Day
Liturgy. Please sign the form in the sacristy after Mass.
The Parish Pastoral Council will meet Monday, November
18 th at 7 pm in the parish rectory.
Have a good week!
Fr. John McNulty
YEAR OF FAITH
Sunday, November 24, 2013: Luke 23:35-43
“Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122)
• How often had you prayed for someone who caused you severe
pain?
• Which of the two criminals do you identify with? Why?
• Are you able to search your behavior and confess when you become
aware of your offences?
• As we close the year of faith, how will you go forth rejoicing to the
house of the Lord?
“Intent on gathering the signs of the times in the present history, faith
commits every one of us to become a living sign of the presence of the
Risen Lord in the world.” (Porta Fidei, 15)
