are needed. Since opening in May, we’ve had many people benefit
from the surgical and rehabilitation services, as well as many
who are making the most of the various performance-enhancing
programs and services we have to offer.”
With the Institute in full swing, Urban says hospital officials are
now looking to another big improvement project on the immediate
horizon. “We plan to open a Joint Care Center in the new East
Tower that’s being constructed,” he explained. “This center would
be dedicated to offering joint replacement surgery and rehabilitation
for the baby boomer population who are finding themselves in need
of this type of surgery for their knees and hips. This expansion is
a serious undertaking and will cost at least $80 million and when
it’s done, it will be one of the most impressive centers of its kind.”
The Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute
in The Woodlands is the third such center to be built. The
20,000-square-foot facility is located at 9305 Pinecroft Drive,
Suite 450. The Institute is a collaboration between Memorial
Hermann and University of Texas Physicians, and is an extension
of Memorial Hermann’s long-term partnership with the IRONMAN
series of events. The original Institute is located at the Texas
Medical Center, while the second is housed at the Memorial City
Medical Center.”
