asking my Dad about whether he
thought it was a good idea, the
next minute I was moving in!“
Media executive Hannah Jones moved into Casterbridge House in
September 2011. She went from living with her parents to owning her
new home in Dartford in just a few weeks.
Hannah had spent three years at university in
Bournemouth and wasn’t really adjusting to living
back at home again. ‘I was very lucky and got a
job straight from university but the hours are very
long and I was feeling guilty about disturbing my
parents. I often didn’t get in from work until 10pm
and then I was out of the house again by 7am.
‘I saw an advert for this development and knew
it would be ideal. All my family and my four best
friends live a short distance away and Dartford
Station is a short walk away.
‘I rang my dad and told him about the
development and that it was Shared Ownership.
My dad gets the bit between his teeth and within
a few days he had found out all about it and was
trying to book me an appointment to view!
‘I had a financial interview to check that I could
afford the payments and appointed a mortgage
adviser and a solicitor. I had to put down quite a
large deposit, but I managed to scrape it together
with some help from my family.
‘The only thing that scared me was the pace that
everything progressed at. It felt like one minute
I was casually asking my dad about whether he
thought it was a good idea, and the next minute
I was moving in!
‘I think the buying process has helped me with
budgeting as well. I was the sort of girl who
couldn’t account for what I’d actually bought
in the month. Now I know where every
penny has gone and I feel I am spending it on
something worthwhile.’
