I. Tournament Schedule<br />

ILLINOIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION<br />

2012-2013 INSTRUCTIONS TO GIRLS VOLLEYBALL<br />

STATE TOURNAMENT TEAMS<br />

A. Admission prices: Saturday- $3.00 for students K-8 and senior citizens (62+)<br />

$7.00 for high school students and adults<br />

Tuesday- $2.00 for students K-8 and senior citizens (62+)<br />

$5.00 for high school students and adults<br />

B. All IESA Activity Passes should be honored.<br />

C. Matches will play according to the schedule. A copy of the schedule has been included or you may<br />

view the bracket on the IESA website at www.iesa.org.<br />

II. Team Uniforms<br />

A. The top team in the bracket will be considered the home team, but it is recommended that you bring<br />

both your home and away jersey’s to all games that you will be playing if you have two uniforms.<br />

B. Players shall wear uniforms properly and as designed by the manufacturer. Do not use string, ribbon<br />

or yarn to make adjustments to your playing jerseys.<br />

C. If your team wears t-shirts under their jersey, please make sure that the shirts are the same color as<br />

the predominant color of the uniform.<br />

D. Players shall not wear jewelry, body paint or glitter anywhere on their bodies or hair for the entire<br />

match, including pre-match warm-up.<br />

III. Tournament Information<br />

A. Please fill out the Team Pass List in the welcome packet information and return it to the host school<br />

for team admission. Make sure you have an emergency contact cell number of an individual traveling<br />

with team in case of weather issues.<br />

B. For each match that you play in the state tournament, please complete and return the Rating of<br />

Contest Officials and the Sportsmanship Evaluation. This can be completed online in the volleyball<br />

entry center.<br />

C. Set a good example for players and spectators to follow.<br />

D. Respect the integrity and judgment of the officials and accept their decisions graciously.<br />

E. Respect the integrity and personality of the individual athlete.<br />

F. Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.<br />

G. The IESA and its Board of Directors strongly suggest an administrator or school representative (other<br />

than the coach) be in attendance at all contests.<br />

H. Royal Publishing, the company that prints the state program, will be contacting winning schools for<br />

community support contact information for advertising in the state program following sectional<br />

matches.<br />

IV. Tournament Policies<br />

A. The host school will not make their gym available for practice sessions.<br />

B. Locker Rooms: Players should secure all valuable possessions with them as multiple schools will be<br />

in and out of locker rooms each day of the tournament.<br />

C. Teams will be allowed 2-3-3-3-3 for their warm-up periods in all tournament play. Ball handling will<br />

not be permitted prior to the coin toss.<br />

D. Only team personnel may be allowed on the court during warm-ups and introductions. This<br />

includes the personnel on the regional entry form only.


E. Limits on free passes to the state tournament shall be two managers, two statisticians, one<br />

scorekeeper and 12 cheerleaders. Cheerleaders must be in uniform to be admitted free; a maximum<br />

of 12 cheerleaders cheering on the floor at one time. If you are bringing a cheer squad please submit<br />

this list of 12 to the state host prior to arrival.<br />

F. Any player or coach ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct shall be ineligible for all remaining<br />

interscholastic contests the day of the ejection and the next interscholastic contest at the level at<br />

which the ejection occurred, in addition to other penalties the IESA or school may assess.<br />

V. Spectators<br />

A. During the IESA state series tournament games, the display of signs, banners, placards, balloons or<br />

constructed frames through which players run is prohibited. Such devices obstruct the view of<br />

spectators, are unsightly and in many instances may become safety hazards. Local tournament<br />

managers should not permit these devices to be brought into the playing areas. (By-law 3.142)<br />

B. All noise-making devices shall be excluded from playing areas. (By-law 3.143)<br />

C. While the host school for any activity must assume responsibility for the physical management of the<br />

activity, including providing for crowd control, this is a mutual responsibility. Visiting schools must<br />

also take such measures as necessary to ensure proper behavior on the part of their own students<br />

and fans.<br />

STATE TOURNAMENT TEAMS<br />

I. Tournament Schedule- Delays and Rescheduling<br />

A. The status of all tournaments will be posted on the IESA website. Please check the IESA<br />

website before leaving for the tournament with your team.<br />

a. If changes have been made to the playing schedule, they will be listed on the<br />

homepage of the IESA website- www.iesa.org<br />

b. Additionally, check the scoreboard for your tournament. If game times or dates have<br />

been changed, those changes will be reflected in the tournament scoreboard.<br />

II. Prior to the Tournament<br />

A. Complete the enclosed form and return it to the IESA by 9 am on Thursday.<br />

a. This is the information that will be used to contact your team regarding<br />

weather/tournament updates. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU COMPLETE AND<br />

RETURN THIS INFORMATION.<br />

III. Day of Tournament<br />

A. Evaluate the road conditions and travel route.<br />

B. If you will be unable to reach the tournament site due to weather/road conditions, please<br />

contact Julie Cochran at 309-310-7335. This number is for coaches and administrators<br />

only.<br />

C. Check the IESA website for updates on the status of your tournament.<br />

IV. Tournament Policies<br />

A. By-law 5.074: No state tournament series contest shall be forfeited due to weather<br />

conditions. If the administrator of any participating school determines the team can not<br />

reach the tournament site due to weather conditions, the tournament game(s) shall be<br />

reschedule as soon as possible. Other contests scheduled on that particular date may still<br />

be held.

the state tournament.<br />

Enclosed you will find a copy of the IESA 8-<strong>3A</strong> State Tournament Packet. Please make<br />

extra copies of the tournament bracket to post in your school and community. You may<br />

also want to forward this on to your local media so they can follow your team in the<br />

state tournament.<br />

2013 GIRLS’ STATE CLASS 8-<strong>3A</strong> VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT<br />

SATURDAY AND TUESDAY<br />

MARCH 16 AND 19, 2013<br />

Unity Junior High <strong>School</strong> would like to welcome you to the 8 3-A Girls’ State Volleyball<br />

Tournament. We hope the following information will answer most of the questions you<br />

may have concerning this tournament.<br />

GYMNASIUM: All games will be held in the Unity Junior High <strong>School</strong> Gymnasium.<br />

PASS GATE: A pass gate will be located near the main entrance to the gymnasium.<br />

Admission through the pass gate will provide free admission for the 15 players, 12<br />

cheerleaders (in uniform), 2 managers, 2 coaches, 2 statisticians, 1 bus driver, athletic<br />

director, principal, and superintendent. All other individuals will be required to pay for<br />

admission. (Please fax me your pass list at 217-485-6220.)<br />

I.E.S.A. PASSES: I.E.S.A. identification cards for administrators and coaches will be<br />

honored at the gate only. These passes are good only for those named on the card and<br />

one guest.<br />

PARKING: Buses should unload at the front entrance of the school and then park in<br />

the front circle drive. Please do not take buses to the back of the school.<br />

FAN BUSES: <strong>School</strong>s bringing fan buses are asked to collect admission fees prior to<br />

arrival. Please place admissions monies in an envelope, and write the number of paid<br />

admissions on the outside of the envelope; this will speed up your entrance to the gym.


ADMISSIONS: Admission prices are established by I.E.S.A. and are as follows:<br />

K-8 Students & Senior Citizens $3.00<br />

Tuesday:<br />

K-8 Students and Senior Citizens $2.00<br />

H.S. Students and Adult $5.00<br />

PROGRAMS/T-SHIRTS: I.E.S.A. state programs ($5.00) and state T-shirts will be<br />

available for sale during the tournament. These items, as well as other I.E.S.A.<br />

apparel, will be sold in the cafeteria adjacent to the gym.<br />

PHOTOGRAPHER: The I.E.S.A. has arranged for the Sports Section to serve as the<br />

state photographer. We will make contacts on your arrival.<br />

VOLLEYBALLS: Unity will provide Wilson volleyballs to be used during the games.<br />

You do not need to bring your own volleyballs to warm up. Rawlings will be<br />

the official ball used during all tournament games.<br />

PRE-GAME: I.E.S.A. warm-up time.<br />

WATER: You will be provided WATER and cups on the bench for team use during the<br />

games.<br />

RULES: All I.E.S.A. rules and regulations will be enforced.<br />

SEATING: Areas will be designated for each participating school. Teams listed on the<br />

top line of the single game bracket will be considered the home team and will wear the<br />

light-colored jersey. The home team will occupy the bench to the left of the score<br />

table. The team listed on the bottom line of the single game bracket will be considered<br />

the visiting team. The visiting team will occupy the bench to the right of the score<br />

table. During a game, the gym doors will be opened only when play is stopped due to<br />

a time-out, between quarters, or at half-time. Please remind your fans to stay off the<br />

gym floor at the end of the game. Only players listed on your entry form will be<br />

allowed on the floor.<br />

LOCKER ROOMS: Each school will be assigned to a locker room. In some cases, you<br />

will be sharing a locker room with another school. Please make arrangements for the<br />

safety of your valuables. Unity Junior High <strong>School</strong> and I.E.S.A. will not be responsible<br />

for any lost or stolen items. Locker rooms will be locked while teams are on the floor.<br />

A student host/hostess will be assigned to each locker room if you should need<br />

assistance.


HOSPITALITY ROOM: The Hospitality Room for the tournament coaches,<br />

administrators, bus drivers and tournament personnel will be located in the teachers<br />

lounge at the junior high.<br />

MECHANICAL NOISEMAKERS: All mechanical noisemakers are prohibited in the<br />

school and gym. This includes, but is not limited to, whistles, radios, tape/cd players,<br />

and megaphones.<br />

SIGNS/BANNERS: The displaying of signs, placards, or banners at all tournament<br />

games is prohibited.<br />

CONCESSIONS: Unity Booster Club will provide a full concession stand in the<br />

cafeteria.<br />

SMOKING: In accordance with the new state law, the use of any tobacco product on<br />

school property is prohibited.<br />

MOTELS/RESTAURANTS: Tolono is located approximately 10 miles south of<br />

Champaign, east of route 45. Please contact me if you need any accommodations or<br />

assistance with your trip to the IESA State Volleyball Finals.<br />

SPORTSMANSHIP: At Unity, we believe that sportsmanship is of the utmost<br />

importance. We believe through the proper leadership from coaches, parents, and<br />

school officials, we can set the kind of example that is necessary and critical for today’s<br />

student-athlete. At the beginning of each game, a message reflecting proper<br />

sportsmanship will be read prior to the introduction of the players. We hope this will<br />

help set the tone for what we anticipate will be an outstanding state volleyball<br />

tournament.

COACH INFO: YOUR IESA OFFICIAL PICTURE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SHORTLY AFTER<br />

YOU ARRIVE AT THE HOST SCHOOL ON SATURDAY. Please get dressed and report to the photo room as<br />

soon as possible. The team and individual photos take less than 5 minutes.<br />

1. It is important that you give the bottom part of this sheet and the attached order form to a TEAM<br />

HELPER. That (mom/dad) will be in charge of collecting orders for our photo plaques (pictured below)<br />

The “Helper’s” job is usually a desirable one because she/he may purchase a plaque for $10. Perhaps<br />

you have someone in mind who has helped out the team this year. *If you (or other coaches) wish to<br />

order a team plaque for $10, please order one from the helper.<br />

1. State tournament (team and individual) photos will be taken prior to your first game and beautiful<br />

souvenir picture plaques will be available for parents to purchase.<br />

2. Show the other parents the sample picture below and collect their orders and money using the attached<br />

order form. This way you can get a head start before you arrive.<br />

3. Please stop by the photo room 30-40 minutes prior to the start of your game and you can collect orders<br />

then. You will be given the actual plaque of your team to show to the other parents. Whether you do all<br />

or some of the order collecting before you arrive, we need the completed form and money prior to the<br />

start of your first game. That way we have time to make the plaques by the end of your game.<br />

4. For helping, you may purchase either plaque for $10. See you at the photo area and we’ll give more<br />
