Thank you Indigo! Co-Ordinators – Susie Dash, Merissa Seymour, Tania Dempsey, Shannon Breen and Rebecca Lowe. Months and months of work booking rides, entertainment and displays, organising stalls, and planning the whole event. Thank you all for a wonderful day. Indooroopilly SS is a really great school! Thank you Indooroopilly SS Families – Thanks to all our supportive families and children who have done so much to make Indigo! this year a huge success! Thank you Sponsors – Audi WestBrisbane who provided $10,000 in sponsorship for Indigo! your support helps to make Indigo! the success that it is. Your attendance and display of cars on the day also adds to the atmosphere of our Fair. Doug Disher Real Estate – thank you for sponsoring our fireworks display to the value of $5,000. Everyone loves the fireworks and it is a fabulous way to end a great day. Thanks to Doug and his team for attending the Fair all day and for giving out balloons, sample bags and a raffle to support our school. Thank you to our very supportive team of politicians – Jane Prentice (Federal Member for Ryan), Scott Emerson (State Member and Transport Minister) and Julian Simmons (Brisbane City Council). These three politicians are extremely supportive of our school, attending many of our school events and supporting our school in so many different ways. Thank you! Thank you Indooroopilly Teachers, Teacher Aides, Admin Staff, Cleaners and Grounds Staff for all the work you have done to prepare the school for Indigo!, support Stall Convenors, purchase tickets, donate goods, work on stalls and help in so many different ways. You are a fantastic staff and your support and enthusiasm is most appreciated. Indooroopilly State School is a wonderful school and Indigo! enabled us to showcase our great school. Thank you to all involved and all who supported our Fair. Olympic Games Over the next two weeks as you enjoy the Olympic Games as they are televised from London, look out for three members of the Australian Swimming Team – Cate Campbell (Women’s 50m, 100m freestyle); Bronte Campbell (Women’s 50m freestyle); and Christian Sprenger (Men’s 100m breaststroke). These three swimmers train in our Indooroopilly SS Swimming Pool and Cate and Bronte’s proud sister Abigail is in 6A at our school. We wish Cate, Bronte and Christian all the best at the Olympic Games. Coach Simon Cusack is attending the games with these athletes and is proud to have been selected as an official Australian Swim Team Coach. School Council Nominations To facilitate renewal and succession on the School Council, a vacancy now exists for a member to represent the school's parents and our community and nominations are sought. The School Council includes representatives from the school's staff, parents and the community and provides strategic direction as well as advice with the implementation of the school's policies, priorities and budgets. It also participates in periodic audits and reviews of the school’s performance. If you would like to nominate for a position on the School Council, or would like additional information, please express your interest to the.principal@indoorooss.eq.edu.au marked “Confidential - attention School Council” by Friday, August 3rd. Free Breakfast at Tuckshop We would like you to come and see our new Tuckshop. Please join us for a free breakfast at our school Tuckshop from 7.30am on Friday 10 August. This is the changed date of our P-3 Picnic Games. After you drop the children at school, we invite you to join us in the Tuckshop for a free breakfast and a look at our wonderful new Tuckshop. All parents and carers are welcome. 2

(jelsw2@eq.edu.au) URGENT NEWS FOR PARENTS: Upcoming Holidays In previous years our school has had a holiday (school closed) on Wednesday 15 August (Ekka Holiday) and a Professional Development Day for teachers on Thursday 16 August (student free day). Parents please note that this year we only have the Wednesday 15 August (Ekka Holiday) as a holiday and there is school as normal on Thursday 16 August. Illness In The Classroom This year our school is experiencing some very long bouts of illness both with students and staff. Parents can I please remind you to supervise your child at home if he/she is feeling unwell to prevent further cross infections with classmates and teachers. Also can you please inform Mrs Grundy in the office of any changes to your mobile and work contacts so that our school records are up to date at all times in case of emergency contact. Thank you so much for your support on these matters. Lost Property There is still a significant amount of lost property in the school which will be displayed in the Tuckshop area on Tuesday 7 August for any parent to collect otherwise the clothing will be donated. Tip: Cyberbullying Protection Parents if you would like to restrict your child from access to social networking sites on an i-Phone, then please follow these steps to restrict access: • Settings • General • Restrictions • Password Year 6 Camp, Kindilan, 29 – 31 August 2012 Parents please send in camp form and payment by Friday 3 August so that we can confirm places and program. BOOKWEEK: 20 – 24 August 2012 Author Visit Friday 17 August Yrs P - 4 Dress Up Parade Monday 20 August 9.00am THEME: Champions Read This year we are going all out for bookweek with some fantastic events planned. Ms Balmanno has organised an author to visit for Friday 17 August to speak with students in Yrs Prep - 4. Our teachers are inviting all students to dress as their favourite book character who is a champion (in their eyes). We will have a Dress Up parade at 9.00am on Singleton oval on Monday 20 August to celebrate the fun of reading and the Champions you meet between the pages. To assist parents with reading with their child at home I am attaching some great hints on how to support your child in reading. Sports News West Taylor Bridge Athletics Carnivals, Friday 3 and Monday 6 August 2012, University Of Queensland Athletics Track This year we have a large contingent of athletes representing our school at the WTB Athletics Carnival, approx 46 on each day. This year we have hired coaches to transport the students and if any parents would like to go on the bus please call Mr Pearce to confirm your seat. Since our school sends 2 staff members to help with the running of the day then we urgently rely on parents to help supervise the students in the stand waiting for their races. This is not an onerous task but helps with the smooth running of the day. We encourage parents to attend the day to support their child and to cheer on the Indooroopilly team. Team members need to meet Mr Pearce at the Taringa Pde bus stop outside the pool at 8.00am on Friday and 3
