SCIENCEWORX - Wed 3.15 – 4.15pm, Junior Tech Lab
Our third session was a presentation on Statistics by Dr Melissa Dobbie. Another fantastic session which
taught us the language of the mathematician and we found out about the significance of numbers in data. Dr
Dobbie is employed by the CSIRO and she showed us some of her latest projects including how statistics
inform scientists on how to protect our wonderful Barrier Reef. Thank you Dr Dobbie for a great session in
Scienceworx.
SHARING COMMUNICATIONS
To keep parents up to date with classroom learning our Year Level teams will send home a Year Level
Newsletter once per term. This year we have been trialling the new Australian curriculum ( English, Maths
and Science) in our classrooms and our teachers have only been informed of the units of work approximately
6 – 8 weeks ahead of delivery. In 2013 we will be implementing a new History curriculum. Our teachers and
students are enjoying the new challenges presented by this fantastic initiative along with the online
resources. So now we would like to help parents understand the topics being covered in the classroom so they
can assist their child with any homework or projects associated with the classroom learning.
From the Acting Deputy Principal, Wendy Fender.
Picnic Games – 9am to 12.30pm
The Picnic Games (Junior Sports Day) will be held next Friday, 10 August, on the bottom oval.
The children rotate through a range of physical education activities with their class group. Parents are
welcome to join us. There will be a picnic on Singleton Oval at 12:30pm. Please ensure that your child has a
hat, drink bottle and sunscreen.
