Players’ guitars designed for guitar players.
The 2013 Vintage Electrics brochure is chock full of all the old
favourites, plus a host of new models.
Vintage instruments continue to evolve, with new models,
finishes, features and innovation.
Trev Wilkinson, one of the world’s foremost experts in guitar
and guitar hardware design, is the creative maestro behind the
blueprint and specifications of each guitar in the Vintage electric
range.
Your choice of new guitar or bass is the result of Trev’s
outstanding knowledge and worldwide reputation.
With a genuine love for guitars and everything that goes with
them, Trev’s enthusiasm is infectious, and his knowledge of the
guitar genre is almost boundless.
With a lifetime of interest in why the best guitars are how they
are, what works and what doesn’t, and what can be done about
it, Trev’s spent decades asking direct and forthright questions of
the people who matter. He's worked with the industry legends
responsible for some of the best guitars and pickups ever made,
and artists who’ve played the best guitars ever made.
An innovator since 1981, solutions and cool design are the
hallmarks of every Trev Wilkinson project.
The 2013 Vintage Electric brochure demonstrates exactly how
much effort Vintage and Trev have been putting into their
guitar range, the result of which is a collection of fantastic
guitars and basses, with truly incredible levels of specification,
attention to detail and, dare we say it; value.
With guitars and basses inspired by ‘classic’ silhouettes from our
shared guitar history, and unique designs, Vintage instruments
are enjoyed and endorsed by a host of leading professional
players, who choose Vintage because they understand the
whole ethos of the Vintage brand.
The pros understand that Vintage performs, that it delivers
– with gusto, which guarantees that if you’re a younger player
following your dream you can really make your mark and you’ll
never outgrow your Vintage.
Many major pro players are now using Vintage guitars as their
main instrument, in some instances even adopting a Vintage
guitar as their signature model. Surely there can be no higher
personal recommendation of a guitar’s abilities?
Players like Graham Oliver, with his two Vintage Signature
models, are a perfect example. With more than 10 million
records sold in his role as founding member of rock gods Saxon,
Graham's as well-known across the globe as much for his
trademark crushing riffs as he is for his iconic double cutaway
and classic 'V' double humbucker axes. Graham spent hours
with Trev in the Vintage workshops recreating totally authentic
signature guitars to pay tribute to the instruments he used to
write classics like Wheels Of Steel and Princess Of The Night.
Graham says: “These two guitars look good, play amazingly
and sound fantastic! But the best thing is that, unlike other
signature guitars, they’re totally affordable for everyone.”
Other players in the Vintage roster include German virtuoso
Thomas Blug, Mick Abrahams, Big Country's Tony Butler,
founding Saxon bassist Steve Dawson, Bernie Tormé, Dave
'Bucket' Colwell, John Parr, Midge Ure, the Quireboys' Paul
Guerin – and many, many more.
The Vintage ICON series of pre-distressed instruments hit the
spot too. They so feel special to play and exude a totally cool,
ready-aged vibe, with built-in character shining through an
authentic aged finish. With distressed Wilkinson hardware and
vintage tone pickups, ICON series shouts ‘this guitar’s been
places, ground through the mill, done some stuff, paid its dues’!
With the patina of playing in countless rehearsal sessions,
gigging in hundreds of smoky bars and clubs, working in
endless recording sessions and touring at home and abroad,
Vintage ICON means you don’t have to remortgage your house
or wait a lifetime to own a classic.
Of course, if new and bright 'n' shiny is your thing, we do that
too, in spades. The Vintage ReIssued range is a terrific
collection of guitars and basses in all styles, with incredible
specification and playability.
ReIssued and ICON demonstrate what can be achieved when
the satisfaction of the player is put above mere commercial
concerns.
How does Vintage manage to offer such incredible instruments
at the kind of prices that literally anyone can afford?
The magic is in using knowledge for good, and doing it right.
Because that's the right thing to do, because guitarists, young
and old, new and hard-bitten, deserve the best – without
compromise!
At Vintage, we’ve proven that with care, and a stated intent to
prove a point, we can bring all these elements together to make
the end result much more than just the sum of the parts.
What really makes the difference is NOT just to build down to a
price, but instead designing in quality, building up to and
achieving an aspiration to excel.
Then, with care, consistency, attention to detail, precision and
rigorous levels of quality control, it’s possible to build great
guitars to sell at a price that won’t break anyone’s bank.
Whatever your guitar or bass needs, there’s a Vintage
instrument that suits you.
Players’ guitars designed for guitar players. It’s that simple.
Over recent years, guitar enthusiasts have admired the virtuosic electric
guitar style of Thomas Blug, one of Europe’s most respected players. In
addition, Thomas’ work as a product development consultant and product
demonstrator for Hughes & Kettner guitar amplification means he is a
regular must-see feature at music expos and shows worldwide, alongside
his own sought-after CD releases and tuition DVDs, as well as
performances with the Thomas Blug Band which includes keyboardist
This Van Leer, erstwhile mainstay of Dutch rock legends, Focus.
Thomas has one of the most recognisable guitar sounds in the world,
playing with a fluid, melodic and powerful style, and has over the years
become synonymous with his much-loved and instantly recognisable
electric guitar, a well-used faded Olympic White ‘61.
As a player who has been the inspiration to thousands of players, Thomas
chose Trev Wilkinson, and UK guitar brand Vintage, to prove the point
that it is possible to create in a signature guitar an instrument which
“I wanted a guitar that looks cool – like Hendrix's, but with
all the features of my signature Vintage Icon V6 guitar,” Thomas
says. “And it had to play like all the guitars I
usually play: pickups in the same position and not a
reversed body.” True to Thomas's requests, the
V6MRHDX features the same top quality specs
as his treasured '61 and his original Vintage
V6 signature, but comes with a reversed
headstock and hand-applied graphics
Nothing gives off that unique, so-cool vibe like a guitar that’s
obviously seen some serious use. Like a battle-scarred warrior
that always gives its best, the instrument’s character shines
through the worn finish, saying ‘this guitar has paid its dues’.
Its sound has the heart and soul of a thousand gigs in it and
you can feel it when you play it. It feels special to hold, and
special to play.
But how many people can afford the vintage instrument of their
dreams? That special instrument which displays a unique level
of wear from decades of playing – at home, numerous rehearsal
sessions, smoky pubs to working mens’ clubs, gigs and tours at
home and abroad? Or how many guitarists can wait 20 years
before their own guitar starts to show that kind of time-related
character?
Guitarists may very well recognise
the heavy wear ‘n’ tear pattern
scarring on the glossless
Boulevard Black body, with
the guitar’s stripped maple
The first thing Kirk Hammett said to me the last time I saw
him was: "Have you still got the white guitars I saw you play
in San Francisco in '81? They were so cool!"
Over the last 30-odd years they've also been admired by guys
“It’s rare for a guitar to feel truly effortless
The Vintage V6 Series offers an extraordinarily high level of
specification, with many built-in custom shop level features.
These include the revered Wilkinson WVC original specification
vibrato featuring authentic bent steel saddles fro that classic
sparkle and tone; precision machined pivot points for total
‘return to pitch’ accuracy and a stagger-drilled sustain block to
prevent string hang-up. An adjustable, ‘vintage bend’ push-in
arm completes this definitive vibrato system.
Attention to authentic tone continues with the use of a matched
and calibrated set of Wilkinson Alnico V single coil pickups,
using a reverse wound/reverse polarity middle pickup for clarity
and dynamics and featuring true vintage-style chamfered edge
polepieces. With one volume and two tone controls, the second
neatly wired to work on both middle and bridge pickups, the 5-way
lever switch and control circuitry are configured for maximum
tone, evenness of response and output for supreme versatility.
Plus, if you’re looking for a different kind of guitar vibe, the
V6JMH definitely has more ‘guitar mojo’ going for it than most...
Check that left hand neck on a right hand body, for starters...
Not only that, even though it’s a right hand body, closer inspection
reveals that the full-toned, matched and calibrated set of Wilkinson
staggered pole, alnico-powered single coil pickups are a left
hand set, meaning that the polepiece sequence is also inverted,
providing a unique tonality redolent of one of the most legendary
guitarists ever... Especially as the bridge pickup position is also
inverted meaning that the pickup bass side sits nearest the
bridge with the treble side angled forward from the bridge!
Otherwise, the cool-looking, unique-sounding V6JMH offers all
the other impressive build quality and features found in V6 range,
a comfortable, accurately-sculpted body; smooth, easy-to-play,
mid-depth C-section neck, and a full complement of Wilkinson
This classic 3-saddle design has been around for over 50 years
and is still regarded as the ultimate tone machine. Staggered
brass saddles offer individual string intonation never before
available in a design of this type, still widely regarded as the tone
machine. The baseplate itself is a faithful reproduction of the
original, made from steel, very important in a bridge of this style
due to the tonal effect it has on the magnetic field of the pickup
mounted in it.
In terms of looks and attitude, few guitars can match the out
and out appeal of the Vintage V100.
From the rocking zebra humbuckers and pure swagger of the
V100AFD Paradise through to the ICON Lemon Drop's
battle-scarred body and wonderfully out of phase tones, there's
something here for every taste and style of musician.
Offering an extraordinarily high level of specification, the build
quality and constructional detail of the Vintage V100 includes a
solid mahogany body and neck mated in true ‘set neck’ fashion
for maximum tone-enhancing rigidity. An accurately-carved,
gently arched body top adds to the V100’s distinctive look. The
mahogany and maple tonewoods are the ideal recipe for the
kind of sounds that this style of guitar is renowned for – smoky,
sultry, sweet-toned bluesy licks with a warm jazzy feel from the
neck pickup help soothe the soul with an emotional calm.
Charging to the other extreme with a flick of the 3-way selector
switch allows the back pickup to rage and rampage through
high gain amplification like no other.

The Vintage V100 is a perfect example of Trev Wilkinson’s
fascination with tone. While working in California, Trev’s
development work in the guitar industry led him to a meeting
with the father of the humbucking pickup, Seth Lover.
Recognising a kindred enquiring and inventive guitar spirit, Seth
Lover imparted to Trev the exact specification of the legendary
pickup units he designed, and that same authentic vintage
voiced recipe is what Trev uses in the V100’s humbuckers to
ensure you can get that elusive, iconic tone.
The V100’s rock solid chassis allows for positive string anchoring
and location with the precision-manufactured Tune-O-Matic
bridge and stop bar tailpiece. On the elegantly-shaped
headstock, a set of three-a-side Wilkinson WJ44 tuners offers
both the precise tuning feel and accuracy you’d expect from
this type of guitar and – of course – the correct look.
Check out the range of classic finishes available on the V100
and we’re sure you’ll agree that this is an irresistible package
of attitude, power and tone!
VintageTONYBUTLERSignature
Former Big Country bassist Tony Butler is known for
rock solid grooves and a penchant for awesome and
memorable basslines, and now his streamlined bass
specs can be yours, thanks to the new Tony Butler
Vintage Signature V4 Bass.
Joining the hugely successful Vintage V4 stable, the
V4MTB features a gloss black body and matching
scratchplate, with an eye-catching one-piece maple
neck and fingerboard. Chrome Wilkinson hardware
completes the look, and the awesome split-coil
Wilkinson pickup adds the thunderous, powerful
sounds that give more low-end rumble than a
mountain lion in a pickup truck.
“100% authentic tones...
at this price you'd be
hard pressed to find a
justifiable reason not to
give this fine bass a go!”
Tim Slater, Playmusic Pickup
Tony says: “When I was first invited to try a Vintage
V4, I was taken by its expensive look and feel. To
discover its extremely reasonable price was a bonus.
For a new bass player to own a quality instrument
from the word go is inspiring. After trying it out during
a rehearsal for the last Big Country tour, I quickly
decided it would tour with me. To have a signature
model to my live bass spec is an honour!”
sounds exactly like a rock bass should.”
The heart of a good bass sound
lies with the string anchoring,
and the V4s bridge makes sure
that’s the way it stays.
Face mounted and fully
adjustable, the rear loaded
strings pass over the V4s
chunky brass bridge saddles for
maximum bottom end tone.
