• <strong>Outreach</strong> Team<br />

– To attract students from non-traditional backgrounds,<br />

who may not be considering HE, to <strong>University</strong> in general<br />

and the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Southampton</strong> specifically<br />

• <strong>Recruitment</strong> Team<br />

– To raise the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Southampton</strong><br />

amongst prospective students, their parents, teachers and<br />

careers advisors in order to increase applications from<br />

high achieving students

Ambassador roles<br />

The Student Ambassador roles we have recruited for are:<br />

1. General Student Ambassador<br />

*All Student Ambassadors are general Ambassadors!<br />

This role involves supporting a variety <strong>of</strong> events on and <strong>of</strong>f campus e.g.<br />

HE/Careers Fairs, Student life talks, Open Days, campus tours,<br />

community/language mentoring.<br />

2. Strand specific Student Ambassadors<br />

Ambassadors have been separated into three ‘strands’ depending on<br />

which subject you are studying at UoS and will receive opportunities to<br />

work on activities related to their subjects…


‘Strands’<br />

You all have a coloured sticker on that indicates which strand you are…<br />

• Red *Medicine, Human and Social Sciences, Health Sciences<br />

• Blue *Engineering and the Environment, Physical and Applied<br />

Science and Environmental Sciences<br />

• Yellow *Humanities, Business and Law


Ambassador roles<br />

How does the programme work?<br />

• Training<br />

• <strong>Recruitment</strong> & <strong>Outreach</strong> will process CRB checks (overseas students<br />

will also need letters <strong>of</strong> good conduct)<br />

• Members <strong>of</strong> the R & O Team will contact you via email regarding<br />

work opportunities<br />

• You decide if you can attend and get back to us<br />

• Go along with a member <strong>of</strong> staff<br />

• Get paid an hourly rate<br />

• We will arrange transport or reimburse your costs (keep any tickets<br />

or receipts)


Graduate Passport<br />

• A points-based achievement record that recognises and<br />

rewards students for activities carried out in addition to the<br />

course.<br />

• Being a Student Ambassador gains you 15 points and the<br />

potential to gain more by taking part in various activities<br />

Good time management is crucial!<br />

Remember to set aside time for<br />

• Your attendance at lectures, seminars, workshops and<br />

placements<br />

• Supporting work that needs to be done in your own time,<br />

bearing in mind hand-in dates<br />

• Paid employment and any volunteer commitments you<br />

have made<br />

• Relaxation<br />

• Sleep!
